The laquer coated steel can also be an issue sticking in chambers. Besides, its Russian poop, pass.It does use a dirtier powder than most, and because the case to chamber seal is poor, it does dirty things up.
Lucky Gunner tests were on 223 ammo with cut rifling. It does very little if any damage to a Glock polygonally rifled bore.
I still don't use it.
Laquer coating never made steel ammo stick. It won't melt or deform from much higher heat than is generated in a firearm. Water proof coating on wolf did used to cause problems but that was discontinued over 20 years ago.The laquer coated steel can also be an issue sticking in chambers. Besides, its Russian poop, pass.
If I may add to this great post………Back when Russian steel case ammo was much cheaper, I bought a lot of them. I've fired 7,000 rounds of Russian steel case ammo in 9mm (i.e., TulAmmo and Barnaul) in my G43 without any issue.
There was not perceivable damage or excessive wear on any part (e.g., barrel, extractor) when examined through a x30 magnifying loupe. Despite the popular misconception about the "steel case" ammo, the "steel" used for the case is very soft and thus it does not wear or break Glock's OEM extractor. So, based on my direct experience, I can attest that shooting several thousand rounds of it will not harm your Glock.
That being said, Russian steel case ammo in 9mm is relatively low quality, weak and dirty. It barely cycles your Glock but makes your Glock very dirty, so you would have to clean it more often.Today, if it is no longer substantially cheaper than other "range/practice" FMJ ammo, I see no reason for using it...
Incrementally dirty ….. yesJMHO....Why use it? It is hard on extractors. I've repaired all Brands and the ammo is very dirty! FWIW
Strange ive been running it for 10 ish years im not a HIGH volumes shooter. but i probably go through 700-1K a year .same extractor... its not the most accurate and it IS probably the dirtiest ive run thoughWolf Steel ammo is Hell on Extractors, Unless you wish to change out your extractor every month depending how much you shoot I will Pass on the wolf crap.
At what point is Wolf going to harm an extractor? Sure hasn't been my experience (as stated before over 150k down the tube) in over a dozen Glock's, 6 P series Sigs, multiple semi custom 1911's, and on and on. It is actually more reliable than some brass cased brand name ammo. I've had horrible luck with Win white box in 9mm. It is not the cleanest but also not the dirtiest. It does have an amonia type smell to it. IME this stuff (subsonic for silencers) is the dirties I've ever used.JMHO....Why use it? It is hard on extractors. Not a reasonable statement at all. Do you have direct experience with this in your own guns?Wolf Steel ammo is Hell on Extractors, Unless you wish to change out your extractor every month depending how much you shoot I will Pass on the wolf crap.
And if he does unless he is shooting 10K a MONTH he needs a new extractor or gun brand...ive put a bunch of steel through my BCM and still going fine how ever many years later this is(2014 or 15 i think is when i got it) same ejector and 1/2-1/3 of its been steelNot a reasonable statement at all. Do you have direct experience with this in your own guns?
But...but internet rumors used to say......It's fine. I've fired tens of thousands of steel wolf rounds. No problem.
Isnt the lacquer tue water proof coating? Still wont buy it. Bought one box to try, dirty as all get out, no thx. Dont buy Russian poop, putting $$ in Putins pocket.Laquer coating never made steel ammo stick. It won't melt or deform from much higher heat than is generated in a firearm. 1000rds a year isnt even a decent breakin period. You arent going to see wear. At 10k rds a year, steel on steel, i would bet some wear nut not enough to be a serious issue. Most people wont shoot 10k rds in the life of a pistol. I get it, ammo is expensive but thats why many of us that shoot 10k rds a year reload.Strange ive been running it for 10 ish years im not a HIGH volumes shooter. but i probably go through 700-1K a year .same extractor... its not the most accurate and it IS probably the dirtiest ive run though
