These things have a very high resolution and should be good out to a few hundred yards for larger targets. Give up on the idea of using it without an illuminator. I have a very cheap Nightfox digital binocular style night sight and it works very well for what it is. It can work with visible or IR light, using visible light it needs more light than my bare eyes. Starlight scopes need no IR light as long as your target is exposed to star or moonlight. As far as I know no digital night scope can claim that.

Starlight scopes were early gen 1 NVG’s and would definitely benefit from an IR Illuminator.

Higher end options, like the PVS-9, 22, 27 will perform better with their big lenses they bring in more light to the intensifier.

We had 3 of these per infantry company when I enlisted and the lenses were pretty big IMO. My point was the digital scopes have to have the IR illuminator on to work in the dark. They do of course work in daytime without it.

And my point was that yours wasn’t entirely accurate.

A digital scope does not need an IR Illuminator to function. But it will increase the resolution and clarity of the image.

A modern digital NVD will perform fairly similarly to a 70’s era starlight in a lot of conditions.

The only thing I've learned for certain at this point is that NV isn't cheap and trying to go cheap will leave you wanting. Either plunk down the loot for tried and true equipment from people that have been in the business for awhile or just go do something else with your money.

Hi, you can try to buy this scope, in my opinion, it looks very cool, and its characteristics are good. I think I've seen it somewhere before. I think I saw it on this site 10 Best Night Vision Scopes (Ultimate Review List) - Ballachy. Here are just the best night optics, and your scope takes the first place. You definitely need to try to buy it and put it on the weapon. I would like such scope for hunting, so I would be happy as a child. Now I have this thing Firefield FF16001 NVRS sight. I am also satisfied with it, but I still want to have the best and highest quality.

Digital Night Vision | SIONYX Aurora

Any one know anything about these?

It's a digital camera. It can see in the dark but it really needs an IR light to get the most out of it.

It's not an acceptable substitute for actual analog night vision. Due to it's refresh rate it won't be very useful helmet mounted.

Best use is sitting still using it as an observation device. If you want actual night vision and want to do night vision things this is isn't it in my opinion.

Yea I figured its probably lacking and it certainly isnt ruggedized.

I have run Sionyx helmet mounted. They are certainly not PVS-14’s.

That said, they are much more capable than many people who poo poo them make them out to be, and offer advantages the PVS-14 cannot.

I wouldn’t want to fight with them. But they’re ok for pig hunting. I would run them before a -7.

It's still an in depth product review whether you like the guy or not.
Except I don’t think there is any merit to anything he’s said, well, ever.

For an AF dork he's got a lot more cool toys than I do... I still think there's value in the product reviews, his opinions notwithstanding.

This is all garbage. Avoid all of these optics.
