A 135gr bullet in the .40 gets velocities closer to the .357sig 125gr and very close energy levels however the performance between the two bullets is quite different when they hit the target. Take a look at a 135gr .40 bullet sometime, its about as long as it is wide with a rather poor SD. I shoot both .40 and .357sig in my Glocks but a 135gr. bullet is my very last choice for a .40 bullet, especially for self defense.

Any auto round round can exibit setback from repeated chamberings. Setback on a 180gr .40 can be very dangerous due to the long bullet taking up a lot of real estate in the case thus causing major pressure spikes with even a little setback. The .357sig has a somewhat small amount of the case neck gripping the bullet so you can get setback a little easier. Chambering a round several times without measuring and keeping an eye on setback of any auto round is just asking for trouble IMO.
I think there is alot of subjectivity to what you are saying.. there is lots of data on the net about excellent 135 gr performance.... Is your data all based on you looking at a bullet after you fired it into something..

I wish I had the time to test mine out. I have a 23c with the .22LR AA kit, 40-9 extended barrel which is ported and comped and the 357 SIG barrel which I had ported as well. 4 in 1
All I meant was, with the barrel swap out, there is no need for extractor, or, even magazine change, for successfully transformation to the other caliber. Making it the "perfect" conversion!

See my signature--I've had 7 other Glocks in 3 other calibers. I've settled on the 357SIG in a 32 with longer barrel and now a new 31Gen4, my absolute favorite Glock.

I believe the 357SIG is the best combination of power, magazine capacity, and pistol size available. I reload, and cartridge cost is not a factor.

Don't you have a glock in 40? Boy if there was ever a conversion made in heaven it's the 40 to sig.
OR...

Go with the daddy and granddady of the 40 and 357 sig, respectively, and get a G29SF.

You can have the full-house performance of a 10mm auto. And with drop-in conversion barrels, the somewhat milder package of the 40, or 357 Sig. All in 10+1 or 15+1 capacity. While a subcompact, the 29 feels larger than a 26/27 sized frame. More like a 19 to me.

If a full-sized frame is desired, go with a 20.

Pros, I got a 23 OEM barrel for my 32 and use it as a 40.
Cons, the Sig 229 and 239 are much better platforms for the 357 Sig cartridge than the G32 is IMO.
I prefer the 40 S&W, I don't dislike the 357 Sig - I just prefer the 40.

And according to some, may be prone to set back moreso than other rounds? Dont know if thats true in real life, but if so, the look isnt worth it IMO...
I check my OAL with a caliper and haven't experienced any additional setback compared to strait walled cases, I haven't ever experienced any feeding issues with any Glocks but the bottleneck can only help with more reliable feeding

I love it when the OP says "my next gun is going to be a 32" and then people try to talk them into a 29 or something else.

The 29 is wider, heavier, and holds 3 less rounds. All so you can shoot full power 10mms? What if you don't WANT to shoot full power 10mms? Is there a 357 Sig conversion barrel available for the 29?

.357 sig - The Most Controversial Round Ever

No other caliber ever has so many people trying to talk somebody out of it for whatever reason. Bullet Setback. Price. Capacity. Wear & Tear. Noise. Recoil. Fill-in-the-blank.

I can't think of one forum thread I've ever read that doesn't taper down to self-touted experts stating what a useless round the sig is. When someone says they want a 9mm, "that's fine". When someone says they want a .40, "that's great". When someone says they want a .45, "you're a real man, now". But when someone says they want a .357 sig, OMG you would think they just ran over a duffel bag full of puppies and kittens. "Why would you want that?" "Way too expensive!"

I'll never understand it.

My next Glock (god only knows when that will happen) is going to be a 357 Sig I really like the stats plus I like the size of the 19 frame,
what are your pros and cons on this Glock

The OP clearly asked for pros and cons. I answered. Dalton is free to read and heed my opinion or dismiss it as he wishes.

Actually the 45 GAP seems to get better "I know you are, but what am I?" arguments going than the 357 Sig, at least here on Glock Talk.

:agree:

Keep this thread going and they will show up

I elected to go with the G27 for CCW. I like the .40/10MM round. It is true that in glock only a barrel change gets you the .357 Sig. Very nice option should I want to go that route as well.

I am a fan of the .40 and believe it to be a great self defense round due to larger diameter up from the 38 caliber. Good luck in your choice.

I love my Glock 34C and carry it much of the time. I also have a P2K a SIG 229 and Sig 226 and I find the G 32C the best all around, accurate and easy to control.
That is a nice selection of guns. I would like to get a P2000 at some point.

I was carrying a .357 Sig M&P Compact and LOVE the round!

Due to new job I must carry a Glock .40 for duty.
Never been a big fan of Glocks due to having smaller hands.
I tried multiple grip reductions by all the well known various people
who do them but still just never sat and felt right. Since I had to get a
Glock .40 for duty I decided to get the Gen 4 and see if it would work any
better for me and I must say I LOVE IT! Then Gen 4 really did a GREAT job
for those of us with smaller hands.

That being said I do not have to carry my G23 off duty but they would rather I carry
a Glock so I am picking up a Glock 19 Gen 4 (I like 9 mm or .357 Sig!), as soon as
they release the G32 in Gen 4 that will be my off duty carry.... I know I can simply
get a drop in barrel for a 23 but its suggested we stick as stock as possible.....

As for the 9 mm, .40 &.357 Sig argument they are all great rounds with the proper ammo and any will do the job in reality but for some reason I shoot 9 and .357 Sig better and I like the added power.... 10 mm is also GREAT but they do not make a mid size nor do I see a Gen 4 coming anytime soon, I don't even know if Glock will do a Gen 4 .357 Sig to be honest :(

Glock already makes the 31 in the Gen 4 variant. It is only a matter of time before the 32 and 33 are released.
