These posts are always so odd to me.

Is it your first piece of machinery?

First firearm?

Metal moving on metal will leave marks on the finish. This is of zero consequence.
We really should start a new thread and figure out the reason for this silly phenomenon that is posting about any single mark/scratch/drop of lube/etc on the gun. Just shoot the damn thing...

As stated repeatedly, the shooting wear is completely superficial.
Once you carry and shoot it for a while, using it as intended, you'll start finding that it won't stay pretty for long.

I have enough that barely get used, so actually putting some wear on one is now a good thing in my view.

Nothing wrong with a newbie asking a question they don't really know the answer to.

We should start a new thread and figure out the reason people can't just not respond to questions they think are silly or not necessary. Just move along and ignore the damn thread...

The 'wear' on your barrel is normal as rain, friend. Just use it. I understand wanting to keep oness handgun as new looking as you can but it isn't gonna say 'new' forever. Honest wear is different looking than abuse. I don't, I WON'T abuse my firearms. But I do use the heck out of them. If the 'finish wears so be it. Just keep it clean and lubed and put those rounds downrange!

In 20 years when you have put thousands and thousands of rds thur it and it looks 'experienced' all over...it will be one fine looking Glock. One of the probs now I see is we all buy so much new stuff everything we have looks new all the time........cause mostly it is. Lots of us look like newbies even when we are old hands and shoot a LOT! We just obtain new equipment consistently.

Maybe someone has a few well worn pistols they could show us here? I'd love to see some trail wore firearms from the guys here myself.

Hello, I recently purchased a Glock 19 gen 5. I have owned my firearm for a little over a month. I just fired it for the first time last night. There are visible marks inside my slide and on my barrel. My barrel and slide were both oiled properly. I don't know what to do about this, I am very concerned. I don't want to continue to fire it and have the situation go from bad to worse. Does anyone have any thoughts about what I should do about this or what caused this to happen? I am rather new to gun ownership, so I have no idea if this is normal or not.

Thank you in advance,

Normal wear!

NORMAL WEAR.

Yes it is my first firearm. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't something abnormal. That makes me feel better about it. I wasn't going to just ignore it and have it turn into a serious problem.
What are you using for lube?

This is the best answer.

Earlier (Gen 3) Glocks showed similar wear on the barrel & slide. Gen 4 Glocks could be fired thousands of rounds without noticeable wear on the barrel/slide.

I do not agree with indivi that the Gen 5 finish is equal to department store spray paint. While the surface of the barrel & slide on Gen 5's wear quickly, the outer surfaces of the slide seem to hold up very well against holster wear, etc.
Ok. To be fair it’s the “HGTV” spray paint and not the Walmart “glidden” spray paint. Neither of which I want on anything I own…

Astroglide
Ha, that might work better than Hoppe's #9, which I could see a newer gun owner using for "lube". Just trying to cover all the bases and make sure he's not using a cleaner for lube.

Thank you guys for the help. Sorry for being so painfully new to guns. I am taking gun ownership seriously and want to make sure that my firearm is functioning properly.
You have no apology to make. You stated you were new to firearms which we all were at some point.

It's normal, sooner or later all barrels and slide internals will get wear spots if you shoot them any, just so happens to be that most of the time it's sooner rather than later. Don't sweat it, its perfectly normal.
