ZEV Technology OZ9C Problems

Interested in hearing from ZEV 9C owners. Read lots of good and lots of bad about ZEV before buying mine. They make it clear that it's not a Glock, but when talking to the company rep is very similar to the early Porsche' and it's relationship to Volkswagen. A lot of similar parts, but yet different. Out of the box mine was incredibly accurate and a pleasure to fire. Recoil totally different than my 19 Gen 5. In short-a fun gun. However, it's now on the way back to the factory. After 300 or so rounds I still had problems with light primer strikes AND failure to completely go into battery. Quick customer service but was told that turn around time will be long due to only so many personnel available to prepare new guns plus warranty work. You could say that it might take a thousand rounds to "break in" and correct the problems or that it would function better with a different recoil spring, exchange a faulty firing pin or smooth out the slide. In any event the rep said to send it in. Has anyone else with a ZEV had these problems or did your gun work flawlessly out of the box after an initial cleaning. I've had guns that were manufactured to incredibly tight perimeters (Wilson and Cabot for example) that didn't require any break in time before functioning perfectly. And yes, every gun is different.

I’m sure they will make it right and I’m sorry for delay in getting it worked out

Not that the proper response was not sending it in but it makes me so thankful that i have a great local gunsmith that works out all my little bugs

No manufacturer is immune from the occasional lemon. Glad to hear you're firing it at the range to confirm consistent operation and kudos to you for sending it in to them, this way they themselves can see what's going on, log the issue (for future reference), and document the corrective actions for future customers and maybe even possibly implement design/QA changes for their product. It will help them just as much as it helps you.

You got that right got my Zev OZ9C Hypercomp Elite and man its been a real problem. Spend 400 rounds of ammo talking to the factory about break in the gun would not run through a mag of 115 or 124 it would bang and fail to return to battery. I even took another exact gun to the range and changed parts and all worked well. Swappd uppers my upper would fail on his frame and his slide would not fail on my frame so norrow it down to a slide component issue. Customer service is fine, but this break in thing is wierd. My friends gun had no break it and it shoots any ammo mine has issues. So lemon it is. Will probably get to the bottom of it this week and report to zev on fix.

I never did follow up on my ZEV problems and the results. They very quickly sent a return label and had the gun only about two weeks before it was back in my hands. After several hundred rounds it continues to function perfectly and is one of my favorite pistols. Just added a Trijicon Red Dot and after adjusting to the optic sight, have adopted the ZEV as my EDC.

1st I love the feel and point of the gun. Really want to use for CCW.... BUT....Out of the box would only fire one round then you get a double(fail to eject) Zev keeps saying not enought rounds through (two Boxes) but my Kimber nerver required such. I am an retired mech. tech. engineer and laught at them telling me due to their tolerances. Like a sheet of paper. LOL I dealt in sub micron. Prior to shooting I cycled at least 500 times and cleaned due to the horror stories. Hoped that would work but still jammed. I'll play their game but Im sure I will be able to fix faster than these guys. I used an old trick to loosen up and it actually feels much better. Ill try out this week.

I have one, not sure if it's a OZ9C, it's the one with the ported barrel. Haven't had any issues yet, few hundred rounds. Really impressed with how it shoots, gun stays quite flat even with what feels like sharp recoil. Only thing I have to compare it to my Staccato XC which has softer recoil but the muzzle rise is very close in the two guns.

I just got mine (oz9c) and having the same issues mainly not going into battery all the way. Not only that, only certain mags drop freely when pressing the mag release. I have about 500 rounds through it. First range session was horrible with a malfunction almost every string of fire. Went home cleaned it. Took It back out and it functioned flawlessly. Took it back out today and it was horrible again. Not sure what to do.

After chaging the extractor to a OEM glock my hyper comp has been flawless with all types of ammo. I also changed the striker spring to the #3 and that made a huge difference on the trigger, have not tried the #2 yet.
I like this gun a lot, its a shame I had to take the zev extractor off because its got cool marking, but at the end the impotant thing is for it to work. The grouping is very nice the gun feel is very nice smooth overall even with some minor issues is a good gun.

To be honest I think ZEV OZ9 is an overrated pistol.
For the price I will expect 100% reliability and no problems out of the box. But ZEV prefers to make money and put more pistols out there and sell more, than their quality controls.
The plastic on the channel liner was not to specs and the firing pin was not moving freely so this gave me a lot of problems. They did not want to send the parts to me to fix the problem, so I ended up buying new parts from them and solved the problem myself. I will never buy a thing again from them.
Not worth it.

UPDATE: After getting my Zev OZ9C Hypercomp polished by a gunsmith and a new extractor from zev I was able to shoot a match with it no malfunction using the #2 striker spring with about 3 pound trigger pull. Gun was smooth and perfect I was using Sellier 124 gr. The gun seems to be temperamental to ammo. Some ammo it likes and some it doesnt.
