I have a T50 that I carry to highpower rifle matches to hang cardboard on wood. Works great but to just attach paper to cardboard I want something liter and cheaper. For pistol I mostly shoot really cheap paper plates with a 3" round bright blue sticker in the middle. Two or three hits with a JT21 staple is all I need. If I'm practicing for steel plates I skip the sticker.

I pull out the old staples and push them back in with my thumb.

I'm telling the truth. Recycle, people.

After the guy on the next lane put a .308 through my trusty old Stanley :-| , I replaced it with the cheapest one I could find at Wally World. Good enough, and if I have to replace it every few years no big deal.
There must be one hellva story about someone putting a .308 through you stapler. How close to your hand was the stapler?

Glue sticks.

Glue sticks. I buy whatever brand is on sale. Never failed.

I started using glue sticks because one of the ROs at the local range was elderly and had diabetes. Didn't want him to accidentally get stuck with some staple.

Thinking along these lines, spray adhesive would also work. I have tons of that.

Nah, nothing that exciting. I was shooting alone a lot and got in the habit of leaving my stapler downrange on top of one of the 2x4s that formed the target hangers. Dude showed up, set up on the next lane and put his first sighter right through it, two feet high and three feet right of his POA. He was mortified.

They have done a lot on our national forestry range here lately. The boy scouts had a troop project to build target stands. They put up power poles with the cross bars of similar diameter and then bolted old tire treads to hang from them for target holders, easy to staple paper targets to them, they work great. Covered shooting positions with tables and seats. 100 yard rifle range with targets at 50 yards. It is really nice for a free, public range.

View attachment 421562 I use a Powershot stapler that uses T50 staples similar to this. I keep one in my range bag and one in my ammo carrier.

It is very easy to use one handed and you basically roll your hand forward to staple. Nothing to squeeze and the staple is under your hand.
My dad always had the heavy duty steel ones with a hell of a squeeze and kickback. Sometimes you'd shift it trying to squeeze it. The first time I used a reverse handle one, I thought it was a genius idea and couldn't believe all staplers weren't like it

I have used a easyshot stapler for 9 years so far. Cheap, lightweight, and made of plastic so I can leave it in the sun and pick it up without burning my hands. The best part is the reverse handle operation makes it super fast to use and easily done one handed.

You want to be able to use T50 staples....that is current industry standard and they can be found everywhere.
Get an Arrow or Stanley "squeeze tacker" as shown above.

If you see one of these at a garage sale, grab it.
You have to use DuoFast staples but it is the Harley Davidson of squeeze tackers.
I'm a construction guy so I get woozy talkin' tools.

One ranged I belong to we had people sight in a 25 yards if they haven't shot at our range previously before letting them go the 100 yards or beyond. If they want to go beyond 100 yards, they had to sight in at 100 yards also.

Personally I just used the high viz targets with adhesive backing or a roll of masking tape The indoor range I use have target retrieval systems and use the clips that are on the target backer.
