Ordered a Zenith ZF5-P

Decided I want to add some SP5K clones to the collection. Was looking at the Century Arms MKE version, that I still hope to get next year, but saw prices on the Zenith had gone down, and they are made in the USA, so why not see how there new pistols are.

Anyone own one of the newer non MKE Zenith’s? Thought on them?

My initial overall inspection seems good. Have yet to shoot it (it will probably be next year). Hope to make a video in a few weeks comparing my Zenith to my HK SP5K PDW, then a few weeks later do a side by side shooting them.

Carried the real deal on SWAT...the model with the fixed polymer stock...we had one shooting with it during my time...barricaded subject tried to break thru the perimeter...3 round burst stitched him up, DRT...that was the only one fired during my stint... absolutely loved this platform...when I would take it to our local LE/Civilian range, it would draw a crowd...hated giving it up.

My old agency ran MP5’s. Great for use in buildings. We had a few shootings. They did better than our .40 cal Glocks (22 and 23’s) and our AR’s. All using Speer Gold Dots. For our Citizens Police Academy, near the end at range day we let them shoot the MP5, full auto, And everyone enjoyed them, even blue haired old women.

When I got back in 2009 from a combat tour in Iraq, first day at the PD I signed paperwork, got issued gear, went to the range to qual with weapons. The next day I was to spend two weeks riding with a day shift supervisor to insure I was o.k. Midway through the shift the supervisor gets a call that Fort Hood is under attack, as our 911 got the overflow and cell service, so we go back to the PD to get with Chief and call in all off duty officers. Chief and Deputy Chief looked at me, asked to see my police ID, then the Deputy Chief was like, you ain’t no rookie, grab some gear and vehicle. Off I went in a squad car alone. Everything was over when we arrived. It was the Nadal Hasan shooting, at Fort Hood. Reported to us as 3 locations with multiple shooters. Got back to the PD and decided to take a picture of our submachine guns on the table, with the Post/Corp General giving a news conference. Deputy Chief laughed and said; yup you’re a cop, you grabbed the MP5 and not one of the AR’s. Next day, the supervisor assigned me a car, told dispatch to monitor me, and to call him if I had any issues. Skipped out on two weeks of observation. Felt the MP5 choice played a part 🤣

Kind of felt odd, as I felt safer being back in America, but knew evil was still present. Now I work as a contractor on Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) and can’t bring a firearm on base, but at work I run an armsroom full of weapons…

From what I’ve seen and heard folks that have the Zeniths seem to like them. I’m debating on SBR’ing an SP5 and switching out the polymer lower with metal.

My original plan was to SBR my SP5. But now I am thinking the Zenith might be the one, if it passes range testing. The Zenith has a front sling loop, and diopter sight vs castle sight on the SP5 with no front sling attachment. Also the Zenith has the ability to go to a third position with the grip markings/set up (and place to add a letter or marking). Along with a shorter selector on the right side, that I like.

A buddy of mine went with the POF MP5 version and SBR'd it. It's cool.

I had a CZ Scorpion with folding brace that I traded off to a buddy for a set of 5 Method Jeep wheels.
The Scorpion seemed like an improved MP5. Having a last shot bolt hold open and bolt release. No need to work the charging handle after the initial loading.

Nice. I work on a Foreign Military Sales contract. Hired on as gunsmith/armorer to work with European and American forces doing Air/Ground training with Infantry/COY. Our contract changed and we now just work as glorified armsroom specialists and the units fix and transport their own stuff now. The European weapon warehouses are neat, and it’s amazing stuff they have on hand.

Most have Glock pistols, Colt C7/8’s, FN Minimi’s and MAG’s. A few groups come through with new H&K rifles, but keep the old stuff in storage. (Barrett's and AI for long range). Our American’s do have H&K M110A1’s.

I've been impressed with my Turkish MKE AP5 bought from Atlantic Firearms. It eats everything.

I also have a Zenith and I'm getting mid mag failure to feeds with it. Reading the owner's manual, they recommend a 500rd break in of Nato Spec 124gr FMJ. I'm pretty sure I got about 400rds of 115, 147, and some 124 through it. I'm gonna run another 200 of 124 fmj and if it's still having problems, send it back to Zenith.

I'm really not a fan of Turkish guns but in the case the MKE is a better gun.

My Zenith ZF5-P turned out to be an utter jam-o-matic POS. I ran another 450rds of 124gr Nato Spec Winchester through it. Tons of jams using MKE and Zenith mags. I replaced the extractor and extractor spring and got it to run 2 H&K mags. Then I tried a MKE mag - FTE/FTF/Double feeds all over again. Went back to the H&K mags - more FTE/FTF/Double Feeds.

Yesterday I dropped it back off at the dealer I bought it from. He previously called his distributor on my behalf and they said they would take it back and credit us.

My Turkish MKE has been flawless.
