New (to me) SIG P220 Extreme

Acquired a SIG Sauer P220 Extreme in a trade the other day. Had less than 100 rounds through it, so essentially a new gun.

Took it to the range the day after I brought it home, and I have to say this thing is AWESOME. At 15 yards, I think I was shooting some of my tightest groups ever with a handgun. It performed flawlessly with every brand of FMJ and JHP ammo I put through it.

Not real crazy about the coloring of the grips, I'd prefer a solid black. But they have a very aggressive texture and really dig into the palm, which is exactly what I like. So I think I can get use to the color.

Doesn't really have any practical purpose for me. Too big and heavy for CCW, and not my first choice in calibers for woods carry. Although with its rails and night sights, it would make a good nightstand gun.

But regardless of its practicality, it's just such an absolute joy to shoot that it's definitely a keeper.

I have a standard P220R and it is probably my favorite .45 pistol. There is just something about a P220... The lockup on mine is unlike any other auto pistol I own. Rock solid, fun and easy to shoot, dead nuts accurate, a nice looking pistol, and it's a SIG. What's not to like? Sure it's big and heavy for CCW (I don't carry mine), but I much prefer service pistols as opposed to carry pieces. So much more fun to shoot for me.

Congrats, the P220 is a fine pistol. It's not particularly ergonomic but has qualities making it easy to shoot accurately.

The 220 was the first pistol I bought and ended up picking up a second. Other than a broken trigger return spring around 2000 rounds neither has ever malfunctioned. Just by nature of the cartridge the 220 doesn't quite measure up to the 226 in terms of longevity but they are still in my opinion top of the food chain for DA 45s.

Very nice, congrats. Can't go wrong with a Sig Classic.

What are the differences of the Extreme model over the base? Different grips, and FCS?

BTW, I think the grips look good.
From what I can tell, the Extreme has the grips, the front slide serrations, and night sights over the base model.

nice, nice piece. The P220 is on my "to get" list.

I second the motion that it would be a great bed-side arm.

.....and a fun range gun to boot. I have an HK45 that I find too large to carry (I carry a Glock 27 on the rare times I carry) but it is just fun to shoot.
