I'm in training this week and got a long lunch break. So I decided to swing by the fun store. What could possibly go wrong? I found this little gem for $440. I liked the feel of it so I couldn't resist. I have no experience with them so I hope to get some feedback from someone that does have one.
I have not even had a chance to take it home. Here is a pic from inside the truck.

I got home and had a few minutes so I shot it. It is a very soft shooting gun as compared to the glocks and m&ps I am much more used to shooting. I didn't have time to put it on paper just shot my plate rack with it. Did fine for the 12 rounds I fired.

I had a couple minutes and put it on paper. I put twelve rounds of critical defense through it at 10 meters. Here is the result. Again, a very soft shooting pistol that is going to become part of my carry line at this rate.

The FN FNS series IMHO is often overlooked and always underappreciated, with their stainless slide & stainless cold hammer forged barrel, replaceable steel frame slide rails, ambi slide stop lever and mag release, etc.

My FNS 9C shown above is the night sight model.

'Interesting story about this pistol, a pawn shop find. The previous owner filled in all the engraving on the slide, along with the FNH emblems on the grips and mag bases, with white paint. But the real pièce de ré·sis·tance was when I realized that the night nights had been painted over with white paint as well. Honestly, who in their right freaking mind would paint over night sights??? Regardless, they cleaned up well and have I estimate 8+ years of life still left in them.

Here I am starting off on the slide using Goof Off Pro Strength Grafitti Remover and toothpicks:

Getting into all the crevices around the FNH emblems was a bit tedious, but with patience and eventually a sewing needle I removed all the white paint.

All told, a nice pistol with better ergonomics and a better trigger than a Glock.

If I ever come across a long-slide model I'll definately grab it.

Enjoy yours!

I will probably add night sights to mine if I do start carrying it. Nice looking pistol over all though

I think what hurt them was their pricing when the FNS line first hit the market. They were priced higher than comparable Glock models. After about a year and a half of them not moving FN announced “new” pricing on them. By then, I think a lot of potential customers moved on. They’re great quality guns; more so than Glock, but the initial marketing hurt them.

Yes, congratulations on the new FN. That is a nice looking little pistol, for one of the contemporary plastic blasters.

Funny you should post this, OP. I've looking at 10 rd (all we get here in CT) subcompacts, to see if there is anything I preferred to the G26, which, while a nice enough gun overall, does not feel very good in my hand. From the HK P30 & VP9sk, to Bersa UC Pros (had a .45 for a few years, again, nice enough, but a but chunky for carry) to the various XDs, (don't fit my hand well) the subcompact P320 (meh) the soon to be available subcompact Walther (may take a look) to the Ruger SR9c (been out awhile and I'd almost forgotten about it) and finally the FNS 9c. It's come down to the SR9c and the FNS 9c. I'm leaning towards the FN, primarily because I like it's sights better and it feels at least as good, in hand, as the Ruger. The fact these two are the most economical, and probably most underrated, of the 10 round subcompacts is just a bonus.

Given that I'm stuck with 10 rounds, my only question now, particularly if I go with the FN, is do I go for the .40 over the 9mm for the power increase? Increased ammo costs and possibly more wear on the gun vs. the 9mm are making me lean towards the 9, but I don't have a .40 yet, and am thinking maybe I should get one. On the other hand, I've also got that new Ruger 9mm carbine on my list (which is one reason I was leaning toward the SR9 & G26...magazine compatibility) so maybe I should go all in for the 9mm.

I like it so far. I am happy with my new FN. I am not getting a caliber debate going but the 9 is a soft round in this gun the 40 maybe also. But I can definitely see the benefit of all one caliber

I've had an FNS 9 compact since shortly after they were introduced. Mine has night sights and no safety. I already had an FNS full size in 9mm.

I like mine a lot. It shoots great and has an excellent feel in the hand. Like its full sized brother it manages recoil extremely well. Recoil in both guns comes straight back into the hand.

I like the articulated/hinged trigger on the FNS handguns better than the trigger safety tab on Glocks. I like the feel of it better and it never makes my finger sore while my G19s do after even a hundred rounds. Personal preference only as I don't claim either type is superior to the other.

Unlike some other handguns, my two FNS 9s come out of the box complete and ready to use including excellent steel sights. Only change I've made is to add Talon rubber grips which I add on most of my polymer framed handguns.

OP, congratulations on you FNS 9 compact. May you shoot it in excellent health.

Ha. I was in NGX last week looking at what I suspect was that same FNS 9c. But I looked at a Ruger SR9c after that. Those Steyrs are pretty cool; I remember handling one when they first started appearing.

Oh, and I bought a 40c with the manual safety lever. And seems FN is running a pro-mo where you can get an Inforce weapon light, so I'll see if they still have any available. OP you should be able to snag one, too. I hung a TLR-3 I've had hanging around on it. Seems to work fine. Maybe I'll like the Inforce better, maybe not. Will just have to get another gun for the 'free ' light, I guess. :)

I've found the FNS pistols to be much softer shooting and a better firearm than the equivalent Glock. Congrats on your purchase!

I try to find the best price possible that I can... Firearms could be an expensive hooby, but you don't have to sale your house to find your new next favorite one. Actually, I think I'm getting lucky too with the FN's prices.

I got to put a few mags through a FNS 9 during a tactical class and really like it. Having no need for a G17 sized gun I never bought one. However a 9c or a 509 (when they come out with a G19 sized frame) might tempt me.
