Most used pistol in the world?

By all accounts the Browning Hi Power is the most used pistol in the world. Being adopted by more militaries, and police globally who passed them down to new recruits for close to a hundred years. Glock has become popular since the 1990’s, but seems to have hit its peak. The US Military, along with others seem to be going away from Glock, along with law enforcement, as are other countries too. Would Glock be the second most used? What will become the 3rd most used? Sig, H&K, FN, CZ? Not pistols sold, but people that have carried and shot them. Most used.

The Hi Power was adopted by Police and Military along with the civilian market, training hundreds of thousands of new recruits every year for 75 plus years globally.

The Glock was a dominant pistol in law enforcement and started to take over in the Military, but is now leveling out. Police going to the P320 with the American military the M/17/18. Other country’s seem to doing the same a going from Glocks to other pistols. The dominance Glock was building, seems to be fading. No doubt Glock will stay around, and Militaries and Police will continue to train and use Glocks, but it seems they have peaked as Sig, S&W, H&K, FN, and others are gaining in the numbers.

The switch by many from the .40 Glock, seem to be bringing in new 9mm’s that are not Glocks.

The Hi Power was used by more military units and police for a longer time than any other pistol I can think of. It was used by generations of family members that served in the Military since 1935 in places like Canada, England, Netherlands, Australia, Israel and so on. Unauthorized copies were used around the globe and really tracked. Some countries still use them as issued sidearms. The 9mm NATO kept the Hi Power around, while the 1911 was more American .45 for US, and replaced by the Beretta in the 80’s/90’s.
What countries did not use the Hi Power? China? They used Canadian made ones. Saddam to Omar, The OSS/SAS to Nazis used Hi Powers.

1911’s tend to be more North America, Mexico to Canada. A lot of American forces were trained with the M1911, but not as a standard sidearm like the M9 Beretta, which was also used by other militaries and law enforcement. One of the reasons the M9 and M17/18 became joint service issued for uniformity in the US.

The Tokarev and Makarov could be up there. Circa 2009-10 I went to train with some Czech commandos along with spending time with local/state police. The commandos had Glocks, and were switching to CZ SP-01 Phantoms, and the regular military and police had Makarov’s. In Europe and other places the Makarov’s were popular. Other places in Europe went to Glocks from Hi Powers.
