How many new reloaders that are getting all of their how-to reloading knowledge and also their recipes from the internet because they won’t buy and read a reloading manual? You can learn an awful lot online, but the internet is still not the final answer for everything.

There is the Internet and there is this site. There are many, many members here that I trust emphatically. With the exception of my very first loads, all of my load data used today has been at the suggestion of or approval of the members of this forum; and I have something like 30 load manuals.

God bless the senior members of this forum.

There are a couple things that set Unique apart. It is lofty, so arguably better suited for large cases than others, esp spherical powders, in the burn range.

Also there is 100+ years of been there, done that data for countless cartridges. And there is a whole history of load books with data for Unique covering shotgun, pistol, and rifle. Not so much with No. 5, Silhouette, N340, WSF, etc. The latters would call for extrapolating à la @George Kaplan , whereas you can probably grab an old reloading manual or Lyman cast manual and find a Unique load for rifle, pistol or SG.
Lofty or FLUFFY?!?

I can see it now.

"Next on CNN Investigates... do you know that one of your neighbors might have an ammunition factory that is capable of producing high volumes of military grade ammunition?! And that's not all... as it now stands... it is apparently legal! After the break we'll discuss:

Should ammo reloaders be licensed and regulated?!

Dangers of home storage of explosive ammunition components!

Should neighbors have the right to know that potentially hazardous practices occur nearby?!

How much ammo is really needed for target practice and hunting?!

We'll have guests from the Brady Campaign to fill us in on this alarming practice rhat might be occurring right next door."
CNN says "Your hired!". Lol

When you think of all the potential angst caused by various groups, activities , & individuals, I say reloaders don’t even register a zero on the scale. Yeah, there may be a ‘Kaboom’ once in a while. I just don’t see many gang-bangers running a Dillon press.

That’s not to say some lefty thinks one shouldn’t reload. I’m sure plenty don’t want me feeding the woodstove.

We're spoiled with an array of powders, cartridges, brass options. Back in the late '60s you got by with what you had. Or could find. Believe it or not, there was no internet.

In the early-mid '70s there was a powder shortage during which couldn't find Bullseye or Unique, so grabbed the last 16# (yes) keg of Green Dot at a shop. Evidently, shotgun powders can work in pistols. Was a revelation. Worked for 9mm, .38, .357, .44 RM, .45 ACP. Dad loaded IMR-4320 behind 150s in the .300 WBY and '06 cuz all he could find were IMR 4350 and IMR 4320. There were probably some mail order options, but we just weren't clued in.

I have plenty of stuff, someone will likely have to figure out what to do with lots of it once I am dead and gone but I do like to learn things I don’t already know. I have made my own black powder before, not a lot to it.

If I were going to try primers, I’d start with the EPH20 formula from here.

I can’t say I’ve never blown myself up but that just makes me more cautious these days. :)

If I'm not mistaken, I think a couple years ago the NYT or some media outfit interviewed Gavin the Ultimate Reloader guy. I don't believe the article was spun as positive...shocking, I know. A lot of his supporters couldn't fathom why he'd subject the community to such...

SR primer use in pistols is pretty common in the USPSA world and is actually better in some loads.

It significantly reduces the chance of a perforation in major loads.

You just have to make sure the FP hits hard enough to ignite the primner.
I've always heard this and have loaded up some test rounds in 9mm to try my next time out. I'm hoping all goes well because I stumbled into even way more CCI 400s than I originally thought. Would be nice to have a backup option if I ever make it through all my SPP.
