I'm sorry, but it is a Hi Point.

I know it's no longer made, so it's not an exact analogy... But, how many of you would go buy a Yugo? Or did you? Now, I had a friend in high school who got one in the 1980s, and man was it bad. You got what you paid for.

But, you go buy a Toyota, or Honda, or Ford, or whatever it is you want, right?

I can afford something much better than a Hi Point carbine. Same with Taurus. I can afford a better gun.

Guy's that are into revolvers... Do you go buy those $99 Heritage 22 revolvers that they sell at Academy on Black Friday for that price. Or, do you go buy something you want.

Why the justification on this thread? We have to explain why we don't like a Hi Point. Because it is a Hi Point. Sorry, but it just doesn't compare to better brands.

No one is saying your car is crap unless you have a Lexus or Mercedes. But, there are TONs of great cars between the Mercedes and the Yugo. You aren't stuck with the Yugo.

Call me a gun snob if you like - I suppose I am. I've owned 3 digits of weapons over 30 years. I've owned several high end pieces. And, some low end stuff too. But after 30 years, and owning just about everything under the sun, I know what I want. And, what I want is NOT a Hi Point. I can do better, and I know a lot more than I did when I first started buying guns.

If someone gave me a Taurus or Hi Point tomorrow, I would sell it immediately. I have no interest in experimenting with it.

It's kind of ridiculous. Why don't you go buy all generic brand food, with the white labels and black lettering? Remember those cans and boxes at the grocery store years ago? Do you shop that way? Probably not. You buy what you want.

So, for the Taurus guys and Hi Point guys... Go buy 100% generic food at the grocery store ALL the time... Then, come lecture us about why we don't like Taurus, Hi Point, etc...

The topic is rather absurd. The question is not. Fair question. But the people who get offended by those of us who don't want those brands - THAT's the absurd part...

I've never shot one. I hear they are reliable. If they are, why not? I have a Ruger PCC 9MM and it's a lot of fun and would make an outstanding house gun. Why wouldn't the Hi Point serve as well? I do remember a Hi Point .45 hand gun shooting round after round with two Kimber's on either side choking with every magazine. Pretty funny!

The difference between a Yugo and a Hi Point is that while the Hi Point has some drawbacks, it works well. It is why Hi Point is still in business selling every gun they produce and Yugos are a thing of the past, so not a great analogy.

Ok, so I am not buying a Versa or one of those tiny Smart Cars or one of those teeny, tiny Chevys. Go buy your 100% generic food while driving it :)

And no, I have seen plenty of negative comments on Hi Points on various forums over the years too. It's not all glowing.

But, enjoy your Hi Point.

I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy your gun. But don't act all surprised when some of us say we are not interested. I have my reasons

I do not own a Hi-Point. I will never own a Hi-Point. But I think Hi-Point is one of the great American guns companies. Because of Hi-Point just about anyone has the ability to defend themselves. The person that has to save up to buy a Hi-Point is far more likely to need a gun for self defense than the person that owns a Cabot. There are a lot of good out there living in dangerous neighborhoods that cannot afford a Glock or a Smith & Wesson.

I have on but havent shot it in years. They are super reliable I'll give them that, I bought a 995 when I was 18 and shot thousands of rounds of cheap steel case tula through it. I would disassemble it and clean about every 1500 rounds or so and it just kept going. It's just sitting dusty in a closet now but I have no doubt I could load it up and dump a mag through it without a hiccup.

Looking at posts on the HP forum, some posters have 10k+ through their HP carbines. Seems to be very little in the way of issues reported. And excellent CS when there is an issue.

I’ve dealt with there CS one time in regards to getting some extra mag springs. Very friendly and professional with quick shipping.

I've had my Hi Point 4095 carbine now for 15 years. Yes they are fugly, heavy, and a bit of a nuisance to take part to clean. But they function and are actually quite accurate. Plus Hi Point has a good warranty and excellent customer service. Mine has never had any functioning issues. I bought mine when they were still $179 brand new.

Yes there are better pistol caliber carbines available. But if you are on a budget or just want a good reliable beater to carry on your ATV, the Hi Point is hard to beat.

I have , in fact, thought of buying one in .45 ACP. but a High cap magazines, only ones are from Red Ball. I prefer small carbines that use Glock magazines. I watched all the you tube videos and they do seem to work , but the magazine problem still stops me from buying one. Good price and they work.

If someone gave me one, I wouldn't give it away just because it's ugly. I would, however, have to insist they give me the 10mm version. My son already has the .45 model and I got two .40 Glocks, already. Need a 10mm.

Aesthetics always plays a major part in everything I own. That said, I've handled a number of Hi-Point carbines, and their design, poorly finished sheetmetal parts, and lastly their uglyassed plastic furniture were all major turn-offs for me. Of course I know that they work fine, but like dating an ugly girl to gain access to her family's fortunes - I just can't do it.
