GunfightersInc Kenai chest holster review......

I was in search of a holster that I could wear while saltwater fishing. I don't own a boat so I mostly fish from shore or wade. As such I figured a chest holster would keep my Glock 43 high enough to not get very wet.
After a bit of research I settled on buying a chest holster and mag carrier from GunfightersInc called the Kenai Chest Holster. I've had it now for about 5 months. I've worn it while fishing from the beach, rock piles, creek banks and while wading.
Retention, keeping gun dry and comfort were my priorities when I bought this holster. This holster has far exceeded my expectations. Concealment was not a concern for me. However, I find that I can comfortably wear this rig all day over top a "wife beater" T-shirt and under a Columbia brand or style fishing shirt that when I button most the up conceals very well.
Overall, this chest holster is a great product. If you do a lot of things outdoors and think carrying on your chest would be a good option I would recommend this holster.

Always liked the rig but it is spendy.

I've always dug the concept of chest rigs, going back to the old-school tanker models, and used them occasionally while teaching in winter under or over Carhartt bibs. I wear bib overalls year round at work. Some mornings I fish before work and some afternoons while wearing bibs. This rig is very good under bibs.

Glad you found a rig that works for you.

I have one of those haven’t used yet, I bought It from gunfighters for my g40 the fit seems real nice and secure and it’s comfortable enough. I bought the chest holster to carry while metal detecting out in the mountains and southwest desert so I can keep the Glock out of my way and far enough from the detector the metal won’t interfere with target signals, but handy in case of predators.

I have a Gunfighters, Inc Kenai chest holster, too, for my S&W 500 Magnum 4”

It is very comfortable, indeed. It distributes the weight easily. The advantage is that you can get different shells for other pistols. It has elastic straps so you have to grab the gun quickly since the holster moves.

For my Ruger Alaskan 454 Casull, I have a Quicklock Holsters Susitna chest holsters. It doesn’t have an elastic strap /harness so the draw seems smoother because the shell stays put. Its advantage is that you can convert it to a belt holster with another attachment (bought separately).
It also has different shells for other guns, if necessary.

Lastly, I have a 2 A holster for a 6272

I bought the cheaper harness so the straps are thinner but they have the upgraded straps similar to a Gunfighters, Inc Kenai chest holster for $50 more. The advantage is that you can set up a carry in the barrel up, barrel down or horizontal carry.

Just found this thread because I was looking at the Kenai myself.

Couple of questions, when wearing it under chest waders, is the gun accessible from the side of the waders? Like, if you reached in under your arm?

Also, do the holster straps interfere with backpack straps in any way?

Thanks!

While in waders you can access your piece from the side or over the top. The holster straps do not interfere at all with wader straps.

I just found another option, for those of us (like me) who are on a "fixed income" or very tight budget. When I need a chest rig, I normally carry in a Hill People Gear chest pouch, which is very nice, and it has the added bonus of keeping the gun concealed, which is required for me sometimes. I have permission letters to carry on US Army Corps Of Engineers land in 2 districts, but the gun must be concealed. If I am on a WMA or National Forest land, it does not have to be concealed, and I prefer the much faster access of not having to unzip a pouch to get to my gun.

If I had more disposable income, I would definitely get a Kenai rig, as the good quality is known. I am thinking of trying one of these instead, because it is vastly less expensive:

I just wonder how the design and quality compare to the Kenai, though.

Well I decided to go the E Bay route listed above, ibwoodandtabby sent me an all black medium sized kydex holster, right hand draw, it was listed as for a Glock 17/19/22/23/26666/27 etc etc, mine holds my G-23 gen 3 perfectly, a 27 would still fit, and a 22 would stick out.
Fit in the holster was tight, but not too tight.
My nylon straps and buckles were well made, all the hardware secure and tight, but...………..it barely fit me.
I am 6"3 280, a big boy, I know, the straps full out down to the buckles, and the shoulder down to the waist strap I could be comfortable with, but when I wrapped the side strap around, well call me "biscuit", because one more biscuit and gravy and it wouldn't have fit.
So its tight, and would not fit me if I had on anything other than a T-shirt.
I contacted the seller, and he is shipping me longer straps, great customer service, I also wish the straps were a wee bit wider, but it is what it is, for half the price of a Kenai, I'm happy.
