Glock 26 or XD subcompact

I know this is Glock fourm but I've got a chance at a new Gen 3 26 for $500 or an XD Subcompact for $400. I have several Glocks but I am wondering if an XD would be just as good for a hundred dollars less. Thanks

My very inexperienced opinion - the Springfield makes a nice gun. Looks like the xd is a tad bulkier though. I suppose stating your intended purpose and preferences might help get some valuable feedback. I don't have the 9mm subcompact xd, so I can't really say - but I started out carrying the Gen4 G26 and felt it a bit thick. When I got the chance to pickup the xds45 at a great price, I jumped at it - smaller, more punch, a little less capacity.. Feels great though and is my main carry gun. That may change once my G29 arrives though - larger, BUT 10mm... :)

Assuming all the handguns you are considering are equally reliable, your 1st criteria in buying a handgun should be affordability

Next should be fit.

If both guns are at a tier of reliability that you are comfortable with, and you can easily afford both, and they both fit your hands, you might want to tell us what your other criteria are.

Do you like to work on your guns? Change parts out?
Do you buy guns because someone else has that gun, and you like /admire that person?
Do you want to start or flesh out a collection? Keep your inventory of gun parts the same or similar?
Is there a parts aftermarket for the guns you are considering?

DID TOMMY LEE TELL ROBERT DOWNEY JR. TO LEAVE THAT SISSY PLATED PISTOL AND GET AN XD????

I just want to buy a gun to replace an old revolver I sold. I carry either a Glock 27 or a Kahr PM9 whichever fits my clothes the best. I always leave the guns stock and may carry this one in my truck because I will probably give my truck gun to my son. I am just wandering about reliability.

My opinion is it depends on what you want from it. I had an XD9sc that was awesome, over 6000 rounds before I had a FTF and had only one due to the recoil spring needing replacement. In the end though, I didn't like the grip safety nor the mushy trigger. I would go Glock but that's me.

They're both good guns. Personally, I prefer the grip and bore axis on the Glock. I'm also not a big fan of the grip safety on the XD. If you already have other Glocks, the ability to use the same mags should also be considered. For reliability, I think it would be hard to beat Glock.

I can relate to this one. I had a G22 and decided I wanted a CCH pistol so I took it to a gun show to trade in on a G26. When I handled it I didn't like the grip. It didn't feel secure in my hand. I tried a XD9-Sub and loved the grip. It was like the difference between holding a bar of soap versus a hand saw handle. Owned and shot the XD for a while and I had two issues. It was boxy and had corners that made it hard to conceal. Mine also had overtravel in the trigger. So I had a small gun that didn't feel small when I carried it and that I had to really work hard to shoot well. I eventually sold it to a friend who wanted a CCH gun and he still has it and shoots it well. And now I have a G26. I learned to grip it, the trigger is manageable and with new night sights it is easy to shoot well. I like the smoother outline also.

I like the Glock better.

I owned three XD subcompact and liked them all. That said, I would pass on them and go straight to the XDm 3.8 compact 9mm. That is one heck of a package. Nice trigger, nice ergos, and painfully dependable.

I just sold mine to a friend and am still kicking myself for being such an idiot.

I have several Glocks and just bought an XDm 3.8 9MM for my daughter. She has small hands and hated shooting the 19 & 26's. I too am really liking this XDm. I had a mental problem with the grip safety, but after talking to a guy who has 4 of them, I am convinced, at least for now, it won't be an issue.

That said, the interchangeability of Glocks is a huge positive. Holsters, mags, springs, internal parts, etc...is very nice!

For me, the XDm was $150 more than a Glock.

A couple of people have have pointed out, the fact that the XD has a higher bore axis than the Glock. May I add a couple of other points to consider? The sub-compact XD has a 3 inch barrel. The Glock sub has a 3.5 inch barrel. Oh by the way, the two pistols are pretty much share the same external dimensions. Although the XD is slightly thicker, I think. One more thing that makes me prefer the Glock over the XD, is the fact that, after trigger reset, the Glock trigger has no take up. The XD does have approx. 1/16-1/8 of an inch of take up, after reset. Short answer, GET THE GLOCK! Afterall, this is Glock Talk, last I checked.
That said, there is an XD I do like. The XDS .45 ACP. All of the issues/differences noted above, have been addressed with this little pistol. I even contacted Springfield and thanked them for making it like a Glock. The person on the other end, didn't have anything to say about my comment.

Having several glocks and a few XD's, I prefer the Glock. Reliability is huge when talking firearms. I have had more problems with my XD compact than I have had with all my Glocks combined.

I have no experience with the XDM as I hate that grenade style grip so I will never buy one.

I have had both, and the XD was by far one of my favorite guns. It was an amazing shooter and built like a tank. The downside, was it felt like a tank when trying to carry it. It's such a bulky gun for being a subcompact, both weight and ergos.

I hated the ergos of the 26, and rather than add an extension that would make it the same size as a 19, I just went and bought a 19 instead.

I also like the G19 over the G26.

I made a similar decision, (G27 and XDsc in .40) but first I rented both guns

Both are accurat and reliable, its how it feels in your hand.
Understand that the XD sub has a higher bore axis so it will have slightly more muzzle flip.

I went with a G27, just becuase I have so many glocks already, but the XD was a close 2nd.

The xd is closer in size to the glock 19. It's a strange size, bigger than the 26 but smaller than the 19.

The xd also has flush fitting 13 round mags.

I've owned xd over the years but always go back to Glock. That being said, you can't go wrong for $400. Give it a try, if you don't like it, sell it and buy the glock.
