I consider the G18 in AUTO mode absolutely useless. What practical value is any handgun with a 1200 rpm cyclic rate? Even a 30-year old Ruger P85 would be a better weapon.

In the hands of a skilled operator, it is a devastating CQB weapon. You can engage multiple targets very quickly with controllable bursts. For example, if there are 3/4/5 targets out there, 5/6 rounds in each one in 1/4 the time as you could with a S/A.

 

The G18 is pretty neat, but I think the Beretta 93R is a much better thought-out design for an automatic pistol. The Beretta can be fired single-shot or 3-round burst and it comes with an optional shoulder stock attachment and a front grip that can be folded out of the way.

 

 

 

While it was not a G18 I did shoot a modified G17 the class 3 guys I used to shoot with had.
It was fun for 1 33rd mag. Useless in real life. It's just too fast. It's like an Uzi, spray & pray type weapon.
I agree the 93r is a much better design overall.

Nope - The Uzi is not a spray and pray weapon. The Uzi is very easy to control and modulate the number of rounds per trigger press. It took very little time behind the trigger to be able to send one, two, or three rounds down range as I wanted and be on target - much more accurate than any pistol.

 

Say what you want. To me a historically significant weapon!

I carried one for a year in Iraq as a private contractor. Great for CQB. Shot several thousand rounds through it initially to get good with it. Gun would get so hot we'd drop them in a bucket of water to cool off, things never did jam or let us down.

I think that the g18 if offered in a three shot burst instead of full Auto would be far easier to use and train folks to operate. I have shot many MP5’s and they are amazing. But the g18 is just too light and short to deal with for most folks under stress.

If you train and train and learn how to do short bursts under stressful conditions you can use the firepower... but honestly a three shot bust system is a lot easier to use than getting to that skill level.

Eye teeth are pretty rare in this world. You shouldn't be so quick to give them up! There's a lot more G18's out there than eye teeth...

 

They are very useful for producing ear to ear grins. Practical? Not so much.

The G18 and the Browning M2 are the two guns I've most enjoyed shooting. Wouldn't have a need own either one, though.

 

The extent of comicbook ignorance of selectfire weapons is soing well here. I have learned that absolutely anything promoted by mainstream, gov& all media is garbage. C3 weapons are very usefull & even the g18 is controllable except by chickensheiters. Forget everything you was taught. It was taught for mind control just like k-16 public school. Few know the extent of psycological manipulation they have been subjected to

YouTube.... Glock full auto Eads, 3 mags in 16 seconds with controlled muzzle. Useless? For most possibly when YOU have to buy ammo for it. For private contractors usage up close, better than any long gun, M4, AK47, etc.

 

I shot one several years ago at a class III friend's place. After one mag, I decided to quit wasting ammo. He also let me fire a MG-34, MP-5, BAR, and a silenced Uzi.

 

The BAR is my bucket list weapon.

 

Is this the reason the Army changed full auto M16's to (3) round bursts (back in the 80's)???? Round one is most accurate, then second less, and third even less accurate....?? According to the Army that is.

True. However, we are talking about an engagement range measured in feet - not yards. The G18 was designed as an entry gun - used in small rooms at extremely close ranges. The 3rd, 4th, 5th shot will not miss at those ranges.

 

P-85 really ain't no slouch. Full auto pistols are probably needed when they are shooting at you with them too!

It's very useful for spraying a lot of bullets in a general direction really fast.

 

I didn't realize they came out in 1985.... That means there are probably some privately transferable examples out there. I wonder what an individual would have to pay for one now?

I remember watching an episode of Sons of Guns where that chomo, Will Hayden had a Glock 18 that he was bragging about when Ted Nugent paid a visit. A dealer sample I suppose.

 

Watched a YouTube video a while back where a licensed manufacturer had converted a G17 to select fire. He just had a piece that replaced the rear slide cover with a part he had made with a switch. It worked good and looked pretty simple, but there again, it could not be transferred to an individual.
