FEG HD-18 SVD on Gunbroker. Military Arms Channel taking a beating.

People are really pissed that Military Arms Channel/Copper Custom has cornered the market on these rifles and put them up for sale on Gunbroker. Each one now has bids at $10 million.

He has them listed as out of stock for $7,500 on their website.

I see that all their other listings have been bid up as well.

Apparently a list of people interested in acquiring these was used to lobby FEG who then decided to make and export these to the US. Copper Custom then bought them all up and are now listing them on GB. People are so pissed off that they are just bombarding GB with false bids and saying to hell with their feedback (although some new accounts are bidding as well).

Sounds like some petty bull****
I would love to get an SVD and I looked into this. It not so much that MAC cornered the market on these “100” new guns; it’s the way he did it.
A group of enthusiasts got together circa 2 years ago and through an agent convinced FEG to do a limited run of 100. Each gun was spoken for and had a home / US named buyer. There was an established list.
MAC swooped in and somehow contracted for the entire 100 total end running the people that had created the deal and had been waiting for the firearms.
To rub salt into the wound MAC had previously and unrelated made comments about “scalpers” and Gunbroker.
What does he do ...... he doesn’t list them on Copper Custom ..... his store but effectively doubles the price and only lists them on Gun Broker.
I always thought Tim was a good guy and I guess all is fair in love and business; but he has really kicked the hornets nest on how he’s handled this,

Nevermind all the rest of his sketchy BS, MAC badmouthed Rudolf, the gentleman who works for FEG (his office is a Hind Mi-24 sitting outside of their warehouse) and who got the ball rolling as far as production of these Hungarian SVD rifles for export to the US, and this has set off a firestorm. A view of the new SVD rifle and others from inside the FÉG warehouse:

I do t necessarily agree with what he has done, but I hate to see GB used in such a manner. I have had very good luck with GB over the years and have always been confident in my transactions as long as I am careful.

I’m not a big MAC fan. Listing these in GB to drive up the prices goes against the “gun guys for gun guys” business model he has claimed all these years. Bad move on his part to take advantage of the gun market to make a quick buck.

These god damned capitalists are going to ruin everything for the good communists who think they can control the cost of goods that they don't own.

How dare an importer decide how much they are going to charge for a gun that they bought from a manufacturer, that's some grade-A number #1 American bull**** right there.

We need these SVD's at affordable prices and if we don't get them at the price we think they should go for, then damn it, that's just not right.

The point is not capitalism. The point is it goes against his entire philosophy for the business and his YouTube channel.

He is one of the most popular YT gun guys and has a huge loyal following. He has openly condemned this kind of thing for years and then he baits his customers into a price gouge.

I see why they are frustrated. Making false bids on the other hand is not ok IMO.

But I get the argument for supply and demand, capitalism etc as well. You are not wrong.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts doing sponsored reviews soon, or even if he is already and isn’t being open about it.

If you can afford the 5 million for a rifle, you probably shouldn't;t sweat the 3%! 😆

I'm not sure what the issue is here. I'm sick of MAC and the sensationalism attached to every bit of content for views...and don't watch the videos for entertainment because they're just plain boring and largely commercialized. But... if copper customs wants to make some money, that's not my business.

Hell, I wouldn't spend $4k on a Hungarian SVD copy, much less $7.5k. Or whatever they were hoping to get from GB to set a value.

I can agree with you to some measure, except for the fact that he intentionally undercut the folks that made it all happen, which was ruthless in and of itself but legal, so he made that business decision. However, he then LIED to the legions of toe suckers about his intentions, and that is that, good riddance to the scumbag!

So, let's get this straight.
Collectors really wanted a rifle that wasn't available.
An importer arranged for a very limited run to be produced and imported.
A dealer paid for all of them and then put them on an auction site where they would go for whatever they are actually worth.
People who couldn't afford the going price got angry and screwed with the auctions.

Do we get mad at the dealer trying to make profit, the collectors actually willing to pay top dollar for a crappy old rifle, or the petty jackasses mad because they can't afford to even be involved?

They will be listed at $1,000 each. and maybe more...funny how Atlantic got part of the Zastava deal AND sells the ones they have for $2,800.00 affordable not oh lets see here start them all on gun broke at $4,495.00 Even Mike Kassner who owned the company that brought in the first original Russian Dragunovs.He sold them all to dealers no game plan if you had the money you got one not some bid bullcrap oh yeah he had a 100 also i know i had 4 of them at the time. And for the uninformed. The serb. is built like a tank.and far superior to even the Norinco rifles. ndm 86 which also were not Russian brought over to China to be restamped. { END that old tale for good}
Why do i bother to bother. Because its Horsecrap what they did for something that was going to be $2,500.00 to market. naw screw the buyers or collectors make it $10 grand right now. I did the Maremont deal in 1979/80. bought them for $1,895.00 sold them on open market for $3,500.00 and all sold out...and can go on with the Clayco's in 1982 and F.N.FALS later on.

They could have been fair hyped it on channel.
And over you can buy one for the msrp of $3,000 But nope right to gun broke and let me hype it MORE. its not cheap you might be lucky to get one for $8,000.00 hurry go bid now! but hey he can do what he wants like i did on deals. Yeah here is a few from the past. ya can spout off when you owned and shot them and disb them or did the first deals.. or knew the players who did fair shakes and deals.
I know a few on the wait list that wanted one in a fair market.when they talked about these for years now. I guess all they got was a cleaning rod shoved up there arse today. And yeah the Chinese type 56 is a full auto.great stuff when we had it.Done with it all...

This post is mostly gibberish, but it also appears to not understand "fair market". No matter what an auction starts at, if it gets bids, then it's "fair market".

The rights to FEG were bought and is now named FEG Defense Systems (FÉG Defense Systems). Original FEG SVD parts were found in the old warehouses, so they built those up from new old stock

Info below is taken from an SVD Rifle thread on AKFILES.COM. where I am a member.

A rep from FEG reached out to the US AK community to determine if there would be an interest for SVD’s in the, and this is the important part, $5,000 price range. There was a huge interest for an SVD in the $5,000 price range and so a list was started for those that would have first dibs. This list was created by an FEG rep to prove to FEG there was enough interest. The interest grew and grew. The AK community helped write the owners manual as well as helped with parts of the design so that it could be importable. FEG decided to go through with making the SVD’s again based solely on the interest for an SVD, which was based on the SVD being around $5,000.

SVD’s landed in country, Trident refused to honor any list, got with Tim and sold him all of the SVD’s, and Tim decided he’d get closer to $10k a piece on GB. He lied about any knowledge or validity of a list, and deleted posts when called out.

Again, the interest that got these rifles into this country was based on them being around $5k. They could still be had for that, but now we have the importer and Tim trying to get top dollar for them which has ****ed it all up for everyone. Perfect example of why Arsenals are $1,800+ right now as well as why every other import is a grand over what it could actually be sold for. If we had honest, fair importers and dealers, we could have all sorts of affordable, quality imports. Instead, we have a bunch of crooks that have manipulated the market for years.

So the potential buyers on this "list" were willing to get these for around $5,000, but got upset when Tim put them on GB for $5,000? Doesn't make much sense, does it?
