colt just joined the cheap gun market with the M4 Expanse. MSRP at $699.

Non chrome lined barrel, no rear sight. Possibly no forward assist and no dust cover.

Where is the people that claim that Colts are mil spec gold standard to be judged by now?

They are obviously targeting the S&W Sport II and Ruger AR556 market. However it still looks to me like the M&P Sport 2 is a better value.

I didn't realize Colt stopped making 6920's

Do I have a future rare collector's item now?

lol
Although I own and love Colts, they are always a day late and a dollar short with their marketing. This product should have been launched about five years ago to capture the economy AR market place, and no they are not dropping the 6920. That's their life's blood product.

When you get down to it, how many people leave their AR's stock. Or just buy one.

Granted I've personally have never upgraded a dust cover or FA, but by the time most people are finished with their personal touches and upgrades, little remains but the receiver.

You mean people who talk about rifles based on specifications are aware that a company is capable of making different rifles to different specifications? No way!

Hi guys! I just ordered the new Colt 6920 Magpul slim line for $919.99 shipped!

This is the lowest price I have seen so far. This is the Magpul slim line (SL) not the first 6920 Magpul that can be had at Walmart for $700 a few years ago.

Did I get a deal at the current market?

AR-15 Review: Colt Expanse M4

Although many gun store owners have been reporting declining sales for so-called “black rifles,” the AR-15 is, without question, still one of the most popular rifles in the nation. For this reason, manufacturers are continuing to produce “America’s Rifle,” and especially affordably priced versions that are attainable to the average gun owner.

Came across this recent review of the Expanse. SJ 40

According to posts on arfcom the Expanse is pretty much a franken rifle assembled by a contractor from parts sourced from several manufacturers including Anderson. The stripped lower and bolt(not the carrier) are about the only parts confirmed as actual Colt parts. There's conflicting info about whether the FCG is Colt or sourced elsewhere, possibly from Anderson, but either way it's not the same as in the 6920/6720. The M&P Sport II has more features for the same price as the Expanse, or can find a 6920 compete rifle or OEM model for a couple hundred dollars more.

But doesn't Anderson make guns under the name Colt Competition or something like that?

Anyway, frankengun and non-mil-spec and whatnot, I'm sure that the M4 Expanse at probably street price of $600 will do its yeoman service just fine. I simply want to poke some fun at the "Colt is mil spec" fanboys who were adamant that if it ain't Colt AR it ain't mil spec, ergo ain't worth a damn.

I do agree that within the cheap AR market, the SW Sport II is probably at the top notch. My Sport II's fit and finish is light years ahead of my Ruger AR556 and Colt AR15A3 & LE6920. The trigger pull alone is like shooting a match rifle after pulling the triggers on the Ruger and Colts.

The Colt Competition rifles are made by Bold Ideas, who also assemble the Expanse.

I'm sure the Expanse will work fine for most purposes as well. But a lot of people seem to think it's a stripped down 6920, or were going to buy them for a cheap Colt lower. It's basically a contracted rifle made on a Colt stripped lower.
