I'm torn between the TLR7A and the X300u. There is a significant price difference and I'm struggling to decide which to go with. The 17.5 is primarily a range/NS Pistol. Anyone have an opinion which they think is better?

Look at the TLR-1 HL as well. It compares more directly with the Surefire at 1000 lumens since you arent trying to conceal this one- which is where the TLR-7 shines. I own a number of Streamlights and Surefires and trust them both equally to be durable. Id get the streamlight and put the rest towards ammo or training or sights....

Re: 800+ lumen lights; they throw a lot of light. Outside this is great. Inside, there is a lot of glare or “bounce back” that is obnoxious when searching a building. The HL lights may be best reserved for a rifle when you want to illuminate a greater distance.

Remember, this light source is affixed to your weapon; you’re pointing the light AND the working end of the weapon at something. Whatever you choose, train with it.

The TLR-7A is an outstanding, compact light. Only real issue you may have is holster selection. If you are just wanting a regular kydex OWB or IWB those are easy to get with that light. However, if you are looking for a duty type belt holster there are fewer options for the -7A or -8A. Safariland does not make a duty holster for those lights but does for the TLR-1 and 300.

I have a 7A on my duty weapon. Fits the holster just fine.

i have the 7A on some of my off duty weapons and a lot of holster manufacturers have it. Well they fit my holsters made for the old 7 too.

I went ahead and ordered the TLR-7A. Price was the end game determining factor $115 vs $200. That's a big difference. Who did your slide milling?

The Streamlight TLR-8AG is the most modern, best featured, and MOST COMPACT light/green laser available for handguns.

Perhaps we'll start seeing fewer instances of lights appropriate for shoulder-fired weapons (TLR-1, -2) being very awkwardly employed on Glock pistols.

The only issue I have with the 7/7A light is outdoors in the woods, there's not enough throw when searching. But I have a high powered handheld. The 7/7A works fine indoors and up close outdoors where most of your interactions will take place. I prefer the 7 length on my duty weapon since I can cut down my holster for better comfort in the seat (the duty holsters are made to fit the longslide down to the compact)

Slapstick22, Maple Leaf FA did all my slide milling on my 32,31,45.

No experience with the TL but we're issue the x300 at my department. It has been 100% reliable and is still on the original batteries after over two years on night shift...I should probably replace them soon. I'd say if it's not for duty use and you don't plan on beating the tar out of it, save some money and go with an olight. I have a pl mini 2 on my 45 and honestly prefer it. Lighter, brighter and rechargable. I can't speak much on durability.

Questions get asked about lights all the time - it's just about researching the handful of models out there and finding out how they'd rank in your own personal preference. All the questions that come up on various forums about "What is the best...?" are mind-numbing - everyone has opinions that vary.

In any case, here's yet another one to look in to: the Inforce APL. Is it the "best"? Who knows. But, it works real well (800 lumens), is built like a tank, and has a fine side-to-side switch for those of us that don't like the Streamlight paddles. Also having a custom Safariland ALS holster to go with it is perfect.
