Hey all,

Wanting to go steel. I do think the CZ is overhyped when a Canik comes with a better sa reset. Yep. I admit I’ve said it before.

That said, I want to get a fun heavy steel pretend race gun. So I’ll play. I have owned a cz sp-01 tactical that I did not find impressive. S2 isn’t a sp01, but point of reference.

Tanfoglio is an updated Stock III. Over the CZ the benefit is it does have a firing pin block, hard chrome is top choice for coating for me, bull barrel. Sf takes CZ mags. No hammer spring cap on the Tanfoglio unlike the s2 frame. I think it looks better than the s2. Fully adjustable sights. Cheaper. I have read this is more like a cz s2 orange than an s2 because of fit etc. never anything specific though.

CZ s2 benefit is more likely recognized, but I still don’t see CZ in all stores.

Customer service might be better over IFG, but CZ warranty isn’t that long?

Parts online are similar from what I found. Patriot Defense for Tanfoglio is equal to Cajun Works for CZ

I cannot find which has a smaller grip. I think the LG fame might be like a cz 97 frame and the SF is equal to the shadow 2? I don’t know.

Any with experience or opinion on both?

thank you

Will the average shooter shoot a Shadow 2 better than a Glock 17... yes, most likely. Will the average shooter shoot an A01LD better than a Shadow 2..... hard to say. Will a great shooter shot the A01LD better than a Shadow 2, probably so.

For now, just get the Canik.

EAA has a spotty reputation for support and repairs. There might be a new importer. I find the CZ Shadow 2 in SAO to be outstanding plus mags and accessories are easier to find. But if you like the Tanfo, it certainly has its adherents. Do as you wish and you obviously lean towards the Tanfoglio, so don't hesitate. Doubt we'll ever outshoot either.

CGW does CZ chrome jobs. It looks to cost 500 or so to put the CZ s2 at what the Tanfoglio Stock Master comes with stock.

However…

I see the double actions are totally different with the Stock Master using a lifter that stacks the weight, stock. Fixable with more work than I want with all spring changes. Not an issue with the CZ.

hmmmm

Do you care about how a pistol looks or how it shoots?

I thought the Tanfoglio Match and Stock line came out before the SP-01 Shadow did.

Consider the Orange is fairly new. Stock 1 has been out for a very long time, and current Defiant frame is based off the Stock III. Old 2005 Tactical Sport CZ uses the large mag Tanfoglio created for it's large frame. So we know the Tanfoglio was used from CZ for that.

They were in the US before the Shadow was anyways.

Meh. Open to be wrong.

The sp01 was the original shadow line. Out before Tangfolios issue plagued clone. That’s why the current shadow line is called shadow 2. CZ improved on their own line and didn’t borrow from the italian copy cat.

I owned a base model steel tanfoglio many yrs ago. I really liked the gun except I couldnt get it to lock the slide back after the last shot. A buddy bought the same model and his always locked back . Go figure it was problably a simple fix but swapping mags didnt fix it so I ended up trading it off.
My CZ S2 has been spotless and its got close to 5k rds through it theres been times were ive burned through 1lb of powder before I would clean it.
Ive often considered picking up another Tanfo the elite limited in 38 super or maybe 10mm but from what ive read the recoil spring bed can peen but there's supposed to be fixes for that. If cz makes it in the caliber you want I would go that route if you wanting a different caliber 38 super, 10mm, possibly 45acp larger capacity then its the tanfo I would just do good research on any possible issues and fix's for such.

The Tanfoglio Combat or Standard, also known as T(A)95 or EAA Witness Steel, is a modified clone of the Czech CZ-75/CZ-85pistol. It is made in Gardone Val Trompia near Brescia, Italy by Fratelli Tanfoglio S.N.C.

They literally copy everything other companies do. I know that’s about the 75/85 but just to drive the point home that they don’t make new pistols.

Style copy. I think the Wintess Match Elite was out before the CZ SP-01. The Stock II was in the US before the Shadow 2.

Tanfoglio uses a trigger bar lifter that the CZ doesn't. So parts aren't interchangeable.

that’s from wiki, but we know the Tanfoglio Match elite was built before the sp01.

systems are different too. Tanfoglio has a trigger bar lifter that CZ does not use.

maybe stick with more known CZ

Ok, let's just get down to it, everyone measure your deck and take a selfie and send it to each other. This should determine which one is better.

I have a CZ P07 and a Tanfoglio Witness P Match Pro. They are both good. For build quality, I would give the nod to Tanfoglio.

I shot a Friend's Tanfoglio a while back I don't recall the model though it closely resembled the CZ 75. It was an OK gun, but lacked the quality of CZ's in my opinion. A couple of hundred dollars cheaper too. I can see why they would be popular, but I would buy a CZ every time. "Just as good as" doesn't do it for me in a self defense pistol. Latest cocealed carry a CZ P-01 Omega.

My personal experience with newer CZ pistols is my .40 caliber Tactical Sport Orange and will happily recommend it to anybody. I cannot complain about it at all. I've had CZ 75s in the past and they were okay, but I didn't get along with the triggers that well.

The only Tanfoglio pistol I've used was my brother's and it didn't like to feed rounds, so...

Ok. I'm convinced. The Tanfoglio seems to be good if you put Patriot Defense parts in it. Basically have to give it the CZ Cajun works treatment to make it great.

So...That puts it at work plus cost.

Silly question. I didn't realize the Sig X-Fives (I know there are different models) are still readily available on gunbroker and about a few hundred over the CZ Orange cost...

CZ Shadow 2, Orange, or Sig X-Five.

Again. Just for the fun of it. Not into gun games.

I shot the Sig X Five at the USCCA show. I didn't hate it. If I didn't already have the Wtiness P Match, I might consider it. Seemed a bit heavy for my taste.

Sorry for the job to the Sig X-Five to the Shadow. Don't want to start a new thread.

I do think the Tanfoglio Stock and Match Elite were here before the CZ SP-01 though.

The Limited is the CZ Tactical Sport. Here's a GT 2005 post on the Limited. Also the Match Elite is the base of the Stock which the SP-01/Shadow comes from:
