Just about any powder from BE to IMR4227 can be used in the 357mag. Just about any powder you can stuff into a handgun case will go bang. It just depends on what you are trying to do. Yes, either works for low vel loads in the 357mag. I perfer Unique for it's greater volumn/charge wt & broader load range. You can go all the way to +P safely in the 38sp & get some good vel w/ lighter bullets in the 357mag. TG, pure bunnyfart mat'l.

If you are looking for true .357 style loads stay away from the TG... it's very similar to Bullseye in that it's fast burning and designed for target loads.

Unique will serve you very well for mid and even upper mid-range loads.

Of course if your name is Little Stevie it won't meter worth a damn and be very dirty. It that case you may want to load with Johnson's Baby Powder.

thanks guys. i currently load 9mm and 45acp with unique. have been debating switching over to WSF but havent been able to find any locally. also would like to use the same powder for my shotgun loads. i know thats asking alot but so far unique has been it. just doesnt meter the best from my lee measure but its pretty forgiving as well.

Never used TG in either! Unique loads very well fills case, helps prevent double charges!
Love it in 357 mag- 6 gr under a cast 158 gr make a great load! Killed a yote with it at about 50 yards or so out of my BH 7.5"!

I do not agree with the bad mouthing of Bulls Eye or W231 in either 38 sp or 357 mag loading both give excellant high velocity loads for each! Actually just loaded up 20 rounds today in 38 sp with 4.7 gr of W231 under a 158 gr cast for my SP101! Excellant man stopper round!

Favorite load in .357 for just hitting targets is 7.2 grains of Unique and Hornady 158 gr JHP.

Used that load in NRA Hunter Pistol. Nice, accurate load.

If you want to go 'magnum' in the .357, Hercules (sorry, Alliant) 2400 gets the nod.

Hercules it is. I'll always call it Hercules except when I'm posting where clarity is needed, like a newb that I don't want to confuse.

Will you get decent velocities out of a 4 inch barrel with 2400 and 158 grain bullet?

Corey
Sure, better than decent, easily to 1250fps. If you want max vel though, you need to pack in the H110/W296 & mag primers.

Great thankyou. I have a whole bunch of non-mag I think I'll stick with 2400 I think 1250 FPS is a good velocity and will what I need. Thank you
