I own those 2 as well and have to agree. Microtech makes awesome products and has outstanding customer service.

Not so sure about the last part.

They kept my Scarab for an entire summer, and then told me I had to provide my military ID or LE credentials. None of which were required to purchase the knives.

Took about five phone calls before they shipped it back to me.

I carry a Kershaw Livewire, and it's been flawless. All knives require some level of maintenance, and it only takes a few seconds. Once a moth I freshen up the edge of the blade, blow a little compressed air inside the knive handle with the blade retracted, and add a drop of decent gun oil on the shank of the blade. Fire the knife about ten times or so, then go about the day. Over a couple of years it hasn't failed me yet.
I would vote for the Livewire also.

Not because I own one, I don't. I do own one OTF but don't carry it, it's bulky for the blade size.

But out of several OTF knives I've handled I liked that one the best.

I wrote that part due to my experience when needing a replacement screw and the correct bit to install it.
They do require proving it is an authentic Microtech and not counterfeit. I texted her a photo and after that received fast service.
Sorry you experienced that long timeframe. I would be unhappy as well.

My experience is limited to a ProTech Godson, a ProTech Snubbie, and a Microtech UTX-85-never had a problem with any of them.

Curious about the Buck 110/112 autos, though. I love the Folding Hunter and Ranger.

Agreed. I have an Ultratech that works fine 99% of the time. Fires like a rocket, and closes with the same precision... 99% of the time.

Unfortunately, the "glass breaker" is screwed in a tick too far - just enough so that every 3rd or 4th time you close it, the blade tang impacts the end of the screw and the knife fails to lock closed if you close it with the blade facing toward s the sky - doesn't lock closed. Fine every direction except blade pointing upwards?

The hassle in getting to actually talking to someone to explain it was bad enough, then they basically gave me the shaft since I'm non-LEO, saying, sure we'll look at it, but you probably did something to it, and you'll need to have it mailed to you local Sheriff Office to pick up. I've played with MT for 2 decades, I know what's wrong with it.

Anyone want an Ultratech Tanto Shadow Magnacut cheap? LOL... Truck knife now. Great knives 99% of the time, crap company the 1% of the time you need them, IMHO. I'll probably fix it when I decide I'm ready to mar up the matte black finish, what is what ypou buy a Shadow for to begin with.

That's exactly why I had to send mine in for repair.

I have five Pirahna knives (one OTF) The Pirahna line is an effective product for the money. They can be carried unobtrusively and are made from premium materials.

I like auto knives. Not sure they are any faster to deploy than a good folder with thumb stud or hole, they are just more convenient, especially in cold weather with gloves, awkward positions like working under the truck, and with split fingers that happen too often in the cold, dry, Colorado winter air.

My latest goto is a Benchmade Claymore.
