(SEE POST #15 TO VIEW THE FINISHED PISTOL!!!)

Yay or nay?

Not sure yet about sights or pistol brace but there is a picatinny rail mount where the buffer tube is supposed to be.

Ideas welcome, thank you in advance! 👍

Thanks, I like it too! Just something different to break up the monotony of black, FDE and ODG. Have a great day and thanks for the reply!

I have five dedicated 22 LR AR-15’s and two conversion kits. I’ve been playing around with 22 LR in AR-15’s since the mid 90’s. I personally like the Atchisson/CMMG pattern of 22 LR bolts and magazines. There are more accessories and after market support for this pattern bolt.

Some of the other bolt designs use an extractor held in by detents/spring and if you experience an out of battery you’re likely to loose parts or sustain damage. If you shoot 22 rimfire enough you eventually can experience an out of battery ignition.

Right to Bear have a good selection of AR-15 22 rimfire parts as does Bore Buddy.

Awesome, thank you so much for the links, I will check them out!

Do you own any Tippmans in 22lr?
I'm wondering if the Tippmans fall into the category you spoke of with some bolt's extractors held in by detents/spring.

I don’t own a Tippman and have never seen one in person to examine. I have an AKT-98 manufactured by Cugir in Romania which used two detents with a spring to retain the extractor. My Colt 22 conversion from decades ago and my DPMS Gen 1 bolt have two extractors. Each extractor is held in place by a detent and spring. The Nordic/RRA bolt uses a detent and spring to hold the extractor. The worst part is not having replacement parts if you have an OOB. My FinL modified my AKT-98 to use a pinned extractor that he made for my rifle as there were no parts available.

The Atchisson pattern used by CMMG and similar design retain the extractor by a pin which is very robust. There currently are numerous sources for parts. The Tactical Solutions dedicated uppers used a proprietary bolt and spare parts are not readily available since TS stopped production.

It boils down to personal choice which route to go for shooting 22 LR. The S&W 15-22 uses an extractor held by a detent and spring and there were reports of OOB early on with lost parts. At least S&W is still currently supporting the 15-22 and 15-22 variants are still for sale.

It's definitely not finished yet but it is coming along!

The barrel will be installed this weekend along with the handguard. The takedown pins are EXTREMELY tight so I will need to figure out what to do there. Other than that it is looking really good, IMHO, of course. 👍

How did you color the receivers? Is that spray paint?
Yes, I used a primer and then a couple coats of this:

I let it cure for about 10 days before I started building.

Well, all of you that voted "YES, Go for It!!!", here she is! 👏👏👏

I have since found an anodized yellow lower receiver and will eventually replace this painted one.

I think it turned out great and can't wait to shoot it! I will say this, that red upper receiver is extremely tight on the yellow lower! Hopefully it will eventually loosen up a little so I don't have to hammer in/out the takedown and pivot pins.

Awesome! A man of your word.
Maybe one day, you can show us a picture of the bolt and chamber to answer any questions about the differences between a 22lr AR and a 5.56 AR.
