While my hair isn't on fire to get a red dot for my 48 MOS I did buy the MOS version to be able to try out a red dot and perhaps put a light on the rail on the front. To my surprise, the only light that seems to fit on the front rail is the Streamlight TLR-7 sub. And while there are a few red dots available, many require adapter plates, or modifying the lugs when the OEM plate is removed. Hmmm...arghhh...

Red Dots: I know I can buy a Holosun 507k X2, but then have to raise it up some with a $25-$50 plate. Or, there are some that don't require a plate if you mill down the lugs (I've not taken the plate of to see what's underneath. But I know there are a couple red dots that just go on the 48 MOS without an adapter plater of milling of the lugs (?).
I know some of you are well versed in all the red dot models. So if one of you would be kind enough to provide me some red dot guidance so I know what's up when deciding which one to purchase?

Thanks in advance.

The RMSC Shield is a direct fit, and they are decent. I would avoid the Romeo Zero that is also a direct fit; they are inexpensive and you get what you pay for.
I had a 507k and filed the bosses on the slide for a direct fit. I never regretted it. Now I run a EPS Carry that comes with the plate. You do have to shorten one of the screws. It’s super easy to do though.

Thanks for your reply. The RMSC may be the one, though more expensive than the Holosun. I like that there is no adapter plate needed, it’s notched for co-witnessing so I don’t have to buy taller iron sights or go without. But the one thing that may push it past the finish line is that, for a $20 up charge (I think that’s the difference) it comes as a FDE option which would go with my 48 FDE. It seems like, for the 507k, that the CHPWS plate is a little slimmer than the DPP, but costs $50. The additional $50 for the RMSC isn’t that much more.

Assuming I go with the RMSC- I’m a bit concerned which MOS option I should go with, 4 MOA or 8 MOA?
The Holosun is more ideal with a small MOA plus a recticle. Any thoughts or suggestions?
The only handgun RD I’ve ever held in my hands is the Holosun. And to be honest, I was only toying with the idea… until today at the range at 40 feet the iron sights weren’t so fun. My vision is getting wonky due to medication and I thought it was time to put the RD consideration on the front burner.

I’ve ran everything from 2.5 MOA to the 32 MOA reticle. I believe 6 MOA is my favorite and especially if 25 yards is the furthest shot you plan to take. For bullseye or long distance shots the 2.5 to 4 MOA is preferred. I will go as far as to say that I think I can shoot as well with a 6 MOA as I can a 2 MOA, or at least within 25 yards. I still feel pretty confident at 40 yards with the 6MOA.
You will have to remove the RMSC Shield once a year to replace the battery. A lot of people run Holosun just for that reason. It had a battery tray that does not require the removal of the optic and a test fire or re-zero.
I run Holosuns mostly because I need the sharper image the green reticle gives me over the red.

Oh, even with a plate on the Holosun you will still have about 1/3 cowitness.

Good to know. Tell me about the green dot and how you think the green is "sharper" than the red? Are you using a plate? Which one and how much does it lift the Holosun off the slide compared to a no-adapter RD? Thanks

The Swampfox Sentinel is also a direct, no plate fit.
I wasn't aware of this one. I'll have to look it up. Thanks.

The Vortex CCW should be a direct fit too. It’s relatively new so there isn’t much out on the durability. I have heard some concerns about battery life.
A lot of us with astigmatisms find the green reticles have a more defined border. The best way to describe it is like trying to look through a lens that has been misted with water. The red reticles often look like an asterisk where green looks like a green ball to me. On my current 43xmos I am running the plate that come with the EPS Carry, and mine is a 6 MOA green dot. I can barely see the top my factory nylon sights.

I would have no problem running without BUIS though.

Thanks for bringing Vortex to my attention. Same price as 407k but fugly.

If I go with the Holosun I have a mind to pay up for the green dot. I know a lot of guys who use laser sights prefer the green laser.

Come to think of it- and funny, I just remembered that I have a laser on my 43x TLR-6 and it’s pretty accurate. I also forgot about it because I have disabled it because the local idiocracy has banned laser sighting devices. At this point I don’t even know what legal at this moment after JB Putzker and Illinois’ woke AG Kwame have gone on a gun grabbing tirade.

The RMSc is trash even with the glass lenses. No manual adjustment. Must remove sight for battery replacement. Weak thin housing. Get the EPS Carry. Use the plate and shorten the screws. Best option.

Send slide to Maple Leaf or Battle Werx for lug modification. Second best option. I think Battle Werx will mod the factory screws for you.

Anyone using Suppressor Night Sights with “Holosun EPS Carry” if so what sights are you using?
I remember Reading 43x & 48 MOS’s use same slide.
I Carry a P365 XL with Spectre Comp which comes with Suppressor Sight with a 507 ..

Shield RMS/SMS mounting standard
Shield sights are incredibly compact, which is why Shield had to come up with a mounting standard of their own. It is designed similarly to the Noblex/Docter mounting standard (there are two holes for the screws and four sockets in which the notches on the mount/adapter fit, one in each corner). The sockets, however, are a little bit wider and closer one to another.

Red dot sights that share this mounting standard:

ADE Advanced Optics RD3-018 Spike
ADE Advanced Optics RD3-021 Nuwa
GPO Spectra Pistol Dot
JP Enterprises JPoint
Leupold Delta Point Pro
Shield RMS
Shield RMSc
Shield RMSw
Shield RMS 2
Shield SMS
Shield SMSc
Shield RMSx
Shield SMS 2.0
Sightmark Mini Shot A-Spec M3
Sig Sauer Romeo Zero
Swampfox Sentinel 1x16
UTG OP3 Mini Micro
Vector Optics FrenzyS 1x16x22
Vector Optics Frenzy-S 1x17x24 MIC

43X/48 share the same frame. Slide and barrel is longer on the 48. Everything else is the same.

You don't need suppressor height sights with the EPS Carry. Amerigo i-dots are the perfect height. I think the front is .200, only slightly taller than OEM. If you file the nubs and don't use the plate, OEM height sights will work. OEM will work with the plate, but you'll only see the very top of the front sight, not the whole dot.

What is “EPS carry”?
It’s an enclosed emitter red or green dot sight that Holosun makes. I’ve got the regular EPS green dot, non-carry version, on a 19.5. Very good pistol optics.

EPS = regular width Glocks
EPS Carry = slimline Glocks.

Both use the Holosun K footprint.
