Good question....

One might also ask what makes small boutique type holster makers products so much "better" than products from big companies that have been in business for 50+ years like Safariland, Bianchi, Galco, De Santis, etc....

I can only comment on duty gun holsters from both.

I started out with Safariland 6365 holsters and loved them. I had one for my loaded 1911 and one for my G34. Safariland puts some very discrete suede inside where there might be some friction. Then I switched to another Safariland duty holster for my Colt Rail Gun with a TLR-1. It was fully suede lined and it was a total piece of crap. The gun wouldn't come out of the holster unless you made a draw that was at one certain angle. You could partially lift me off the ground if you wanted to unless you slowed way down and got the angle just perfect. It was actually dangerous, and everyone I spoke to (on this forum included) said they had the exact same issue with the model I had. Safariland customer service even acknowledged that it was a badly designed holster.

So for my rail gun w/ light I bought a Comp-Tac which was all plastic but beautifully designed and extremely fast to draw from. I never had a single thing to criticize about it other than it was a tiny bit noisier during the draw due to the fact that it was all plastic. No biggie. I would buy Comp-Tac again and again. But they are not cheap. And they used to offer more color choices than they currently do.

JMO, but their products aren't in the same category. Safariland make the gold standard of duty holsters and duty gear, IMO. Their concealed carry stuff is just ok. Quality is good, but designs aren't impressive.

Comp-Tac on the other hand makes excellent concealed carry and competition holsters and gear. Some of their stuff is also very acceptable for LE duty. I've got an MTAC that I've had for about 15 years. Truly superb holster. I've actually converted it for AIBW carry and find it extremely comfortable with my G26 up through my G17 MOS.

Comp-Tac was the most popular at the 2022 IDPA nationals competition, which should say something about its competition holsters.

All my comepetion holsters are Comptac. I also like their hybrid IWB holsters.
