This is not about Walmart or whether or not you buy ammo there. This is the nation's largest retailer caving-in. -A previously shooter-friendly environment has now fallen victim to the crusade of antis. This will have a ripple effect. The gun and ammo industries are under attack from all sides. Banks, retailers, supply chain feeds....You name it.

At a time when we need the NRA to step up, they are mired in fear of bad press, mis-spending and corporate garbage. No one has the political might of the NRA. Period!

If not NRA, then who?

Again, this is not about changing who you get your ammo from. If Walmart can't stand up to this nonsense, who can? How long before your supplier starts thinking the market is too risky?

Forget the hurricane. This is today's big news. This is Yuuuuuge.

You can never find a clerk that has the key to the ammunition lock anyway. I bought some 9MM from them, but it wasn't worth the wait. Buy bulk on line.
To me the bigger issue is that they are lobbying for reinstatement of the AWB.

I can find other places to shop, but they are actively engaging the White House and Congress to pass new gun legislation!

They need to hear a loud and clear message that sitting idly by (not selling us "gun stuff"), gun owners will adapt to and shop elsewhere. But siding against the Second Amendment, isn't just about where folks buy firearms and ammo. It should also include who we buy milk, Budweiser, M&M's, Alka Seltzer, car batteries, and Cheetos from!

The 4 or 5 people that control Wal-Mart don't care about a minority of American consumers ( i.e super gun enthusiasts )they will take care of their, traditional deer and bird hunters and put more clothing to sell in the space formerly used by the banned gun stuff. And they will continue to prosper.

Amarican marksman has some good deals too. Wall mart thinks they are 20% of the ammo market. Guess they don't know about mail order....lgs will get my small purchases but it will always be by mail for bulk
Never say always. Mail-order ammo would be easy to regulate or even ban next.

I can easily divert my spend from WalMart. Dick's Sporting Goods didn't offer anything I couldn't find elsewhere, and WalMart is the same. It can be more convenient to swing by (even though I usually prefer more local grocers or stores), but I can absolutely afford to be more selective in who I spend money with. I hereby pledge not to step into a WalMart for one month, to write them a letter, and to call all my elected politicians in D.C. to help offset WalMart's actions. In one month, I will re-evaluate.

WalMart is asking for "common sense" gun reform...

"...McMillon said that he would send letters to the White House and congressional leaders that "call for action" on "common sense" gun safety measures. McMillon said Congress should debate re-authorizing the assault weapons ban..." source, CNN online article "Walmart ends all handgun ammunition sales and asks customers not to carry guns into stores"

That's very disappointing to say the least. I didn't think Walmart would stoop to lame virtue signaling like this. On a day to day basis, very difficult to beat Walmart prices when you factor in shipping costs from online retailers. Fortunately, I'm well stocked on .22LR, 9mm and 7.62x39 and I reload for 357, 458 Win and 500 S&W, plenty on hand and reloading supplies as well.

While I'd prefer to patronize local shops, ammo is usually 40-50% more expensive than at WM. WM everyday prices beat Academy's sale prices. In recent months WM has even stepped up and are/were carrying high quality ammo for guns like the 6.5mm Creedmoor.

Did they really consider that the last 3 "mass" shooters were all nutjobs and penalizing the law abiding accomplishes nothing just like always? Jerks. Don

Good luck, thanks for the effort but doubt you'll get anything other than a form letter reply if you even get that.

I'll continue to patronize other parts of WM, they have so many other things that grocery stores don't have, I value the convenience and appreciate the aggressive pricing. Don

Well.....I will be reducing my purchases there till I find other suppliers and completely stop patronizing WM. Very disappointed, to say the least, especially trying to influence politicians as well and actively taking a role in anti-gun propaganda. Bye bye Wally World

Academy Sports.
Kinda sucks for me, i usually buy alot of my plinkin stuff at walmart, because i cant find a place out of state that will ship ammo directly to me instead of a FFL dealer here in NY. None of the local FFL`s will lets us have ammo shipped to them, it pisses them off because you dont buy THEIR ammo. Every FFL dealer that has told me this, i told them LOWER YOUR GAWD DAMN PRICES, THEN I`LL BUY IT FROM YOU!!! Until then, screw you!

A boycott by every gun owner is in order... NATIONWIDE!!!
Do NOT buy ANYTHING pertaining to guns and hunting at walmart ever again!

This change in pistol ammo sales will be a boon to the local small businesses who load anmo. They may not be below Wal-Mart prices but they can beat the prices of the giant ammo companies.

In ,the past the USA saw a rise ,in American made semi auto rifles after the ban on foreign military rifles went into effect. There are stateside companies making and selling military style rifles today that would not be here today if not for that ban.

Look at this as another opportunity for American small businesses to grab their part of the ring. These skills should not rest only with the billionaire corporations.

Aldi's routinely beats their prices. Kroger, etc. are also close, and the food quality trumps Walmart (good luck with that nice cut of beef at the Walmart butcher (that doesn't exist!). Amazon is giving them fits. We have lots of other options. Sure, Walmart is cheap. Try Amazon Pantry or Instant Cart (CVS, Walgreen's Costco, Target, Kroger, Publix all delivered to your home for reasonable fees).

If people don't vote with their dollars, there are no consequences to be anti-gun. Kroger and Walmart stood up to anti-gunners and simply let prevailing law dictate... until now! You may as well start buying 10-round magazines, and realize you will be restricted from buying or selling AR-15's.

As for replies or personal letters, I expect none. Doesn't matter! BUT, if Walmart hears from 100,000 people like me, AND sees a drop in revenue BEYOND the drop they expect by discontinuing certain sales, they will respond. However, if they get very few letters and their revenue remains unchanged, they will assume it is quote safe to actively support gun control, and continue to push for new, restrictive gun laws ("gun owners will fall in line and still shop with us, we are safe!").

I do get letters back from my Congressman and Senators. Most are absolutely form letters, but you know what? The person who sent it to me ALSO put another check mark in their box tracking active input into legislation. If they get a huge response, they know it is an issue they need to be careful of (people who write letters VOTE!). And the position who garners the most check boxes wins your elected official's voting position. No letters, no impact. Lots of letters, lots of impact. It is as simple as that.

Based upon the general reactions here, I am beginning to feel like a second AWB getting passed is almost a foregone conclusion... many gun owners seem to be pretty much okay with it.

Walmart is asking for new renewal of the Assault Weapon Ban. So, how will that impact AR-15 manufacturing?

Remember... the AWB definition banned any weapon with a folding or collapsible stock and either a flash hider or threaded barrel. How many AR's sold today don't have those features?

MP-5 clones and CZ Scorpions would have been banned (cannot have an automatic version). SIG MPX and other AR pistols would have all been banned (cannot have a magazine outside the grip). And that isn't even taking into account the fact that new discussions are even MORE restrictive (impacting handheld semi-auto pistols) in ways beyond magazine capacity.

I smell apathy, and that (coupled with a general dislike for Republican leadership and with a big election on the near horizon) feels like a bad combination.

That's real noble but we'll just buy it somewhere else. Maybe they should quit selling tobacco and alcoholic products also which kill many more folks than their ammo does.
Then maybe they should also stop selling cigarettes and alcohol, since they are so concerned about peoples safety. Can you say politically correct hypocrites.
^^ ^ ^ ^ ^ THIS. As always, the logic in these statements is spot on. We have all heard these comparisons before, and they are accurate.
Never say always. Mail-order ammo would be easy to regulate or even ban next.
^ ^ ^ Yes, I have always taken note of that idea out there by the loonies. It would be quite easy to push.......

Does this mean Wally is no longer a source for .22 LR for people who buy it up so they can mark it up for resale?
In the last 10 years or so, I've only seen two boxes of .22LR at a Walmart in any of the Southeastern states that I frequent, from east Texas to the Gulf and Atlantic coasts and up to Kentucky and I bought one. No loss for me.

Target and their pro trans/gay attitudes, worse than Walmart. None of Aldi's, Publix or Kroger exist in our market area. Thanks for the heads up on Amazon Pantry, my wife's a great cook but would be nice to get more options.

I think it would take a far greater downturn in sales to dissuade Walmart than could likely be caused by even a large number of shooters abandoning them. CEO is an idiot.

I wish I felt anything affected members of Congress other than a letter with a seven-digit check attached. I once discussed some matters that I am very well qualified, military weapons issues and Sen Cornyns' receptionist flat argued with me and among other things insisted that Islam was a religion of peace. Can't talk to anyone with even half an educated mind.

I think the Demonrats will stop focusing on guns in 2020. They have to be aware that Gore lost the election due to his anti gun stance. Does that mean slack off, of course not. If I had to bet, I'd say lots of smoke and bluff and no major changes in gun laws.

Red flag likely to pass and that will be very unfortunate, will result in large numbers of cases of inappropriate actions by LE and judges. Don
