Hands down, the Beretta M9A3 is simply the finest pistol ever devised.

*This is tongue and cheek. I think it's a great offering, but I'm only having fun using the Benelli language in those old Tom Knapp commercials (not that he said it).

Nope.
Still has lousy sights and trigger, but hey whatever floats your boat.
They are Trijicon sights, aren't they? How are the sights "lousy"? And I don't know your standard for triggers, but the 92 is up there with the best. Crisp single action and smooth double action. Maybe it would be better if it was a consistent pull weight, but there are drawbacks to every design style.

The M9A3 has definite flaws, but those are some of the last things I'd nitpick on it. For example, the slide-mounted control is a relic from the Walther P38 that gets in the way of modern gun handling. The trigger bar outside the frame and pop-up firing pin block are unnecessarily exposed to the environment, as is the entire barrel. And the M9A3 is too big to be useful to a lot of people as a sidearm. The barrel should be shorter at a minimum.

I haven’t shot the M9A3 yet, but I suspect it’s a fine pistol. I prefer the standard 92fs grip and don’t need a threaded barrel. People will point out the same flaws in the A3 that they claim exist in the standard M9 and 92fs. Most people who see flaws in the design either don’t want to learn the gun or are parroting what they’ve heard elsewhere and have already disregarded the platform.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here: In the last 25+ years I’ve owned or been issued approximately equal numbers of Beretta 92 series and Glock pistols. I don’t count rounds, but suspect I’ve fired about an equal number of rounds from each platform, they are the two platforms with which I am most familiar. If I knew today was the day I was going to rely on a pistol to get me home, I would grab one of my well-maintained Berettas to take to work. It’s been my experience that the 92 series is the most reliable combat pistol available off the shelf. It’s heavier than a full-size polymer gun (by a whole 8-10 ounces... think weight of a loaded mag). It’s harder to master the DA trigger than a striker. It does require a little more oil, especially when new. But you don’t hear of people “limp-wristing” the Beretta. Nor has the term “Beretta leg” made it into the vernacular.

Trijicon or not they are still basic 3 dot drift adjustable only sights, with no elevation adjustment.
The trigger is heavy and long and just average at best.

By your own admission it has several flaws. I'd also add the finish is not all that durable and accuracy is average.

"simply the finest pistol ever devised" I mean I could post the definition of finest if it helps. Or perhaps narrow the scope a little to "finest combat pistol ever devised" but even then I still wouldn't agree.

I don't know of any military service handgun that comes with fully adjustable sights.

Only for the first shot, and it's much better than the average DA/SA trigger pulls from other gun companies.

The finish isn't all that, but then it was plenty good enough for the US Army's service all these decades. Accuracy on a Beretta 92-series is better than average. I'd pit it against any other stock service pistols.

It was a hyperbolic remark.

I freaking hate that. When someone asks for recommendations, options, whatever, and puts "Go!" at the end of it.

I just wanna respond "No."

Even as a Beretta fan, I think there’s better. Have you handled a Beretta LTT Elite, Wilson Brig-Tac, or Cent-Tac?

Ok, you like it, I am very happy for you.

But, "Hands down", "finest pistol ever devised"?

You might want to rein that in a little... or at least include "in my opinion", because that is all your slightly over the top statement is... an opinion.;)

The M9/92 series pistols are very accurate and reliable, because of the non-tilting barrel. They are big and designed to be a full sized service pistols. I have shot thru the same hole at 7 yards four times in a row with mine. I can’t do that with any other pistol. They are also the safest pistols to carry with a loaded chamber. However, it’s not the favorite gun I own.

I believe this to be true. The safety rotates the firing pin completely out of alignment. And even if the safety is off, there is a firing pin block which requires the long heavy double action trigger to be pulled.

I like my 92fs and 92compact.

But, as safe as the DA/SA design of them is, I'm not sure it makes up for the terrible concept of the DA/SA transition for shooting.

The Berettas shoot great, but the no safety, no transition, Glock is reliably faster to the bang, bang, accurately, for me :)

Any Glock, 92 Series Beretta, P Series Sig, or 75 Series CZ let me sleep at peace in my bed when one is on the nightstand. And maybe one or two HK models. The M9A3 is a nice choice.

That’s a joke.

I don’t even know where to start, but it’s not even close to the finest Beretta, let alone the finest pistol.

It’s actually not that heavy. Its doesn't even have a steel frame.

I have 9mms much heavier.

I never quite understood where you came up with this stuff, Borg. Do you know how popular pistols like the CZ Shadow 2 and 9mm 1911s are? They are all just as big and heavier than the Beretta.

Guns like the Sig X-Five and S&W 952 are also heavier and highly sought after.

Why should 9mms be lighter?

I think it's the best combat pistol Beretta has made to date.
I think it's a great full size and one of the best of those, but I can't back that it's the best "hands down". Hell, that's gonna change from person to person just based on needs alone but I think it could definitely make it onto a list of best pistols.

Overall, I like the 92 design, but I've always had a preference for steel framed guns.

Congrats on a great gun. I really need to stop seeing pictures of Langdon Berettas, or else I may end up with one in my stocking this Christmas. Seriously, Mr. Langdon’s version of my favorite pistol of all time is my biggest temptation right now. Prolly the only thing keeping me from it is my recently rekindled interest in .40 caliber pistols. I guess I should be thankful he doesn’t make a version of the 96.
