Is the G17 rated for 9MM +P+, got a box of Magtech when I bought my Ruger Blackhawk .357 with a 9mm cylinder from the guy I sold it to several years ago.

No, it isn't rated for +P+ ammo as there is no SAAMI standard for +P+ ammo. You can't rate something for +P+ if there is no standard. Is the G17 rated for 9MM +P+, got a box of Magtech when I bought my Ruger Blackhawk .357 with a 9mm cylinder from the guy I sold it to several years ago.
Rated and handled are two different words with different meaning. He askedMaybe not rated for it, but it'll handle it just fine.
and no it isn't.Is the G17 rated for 9MM +P+
The 9mm has more than one standard such as CIP, NATO, SAAMI.How can it be rated for ammo that has no SAAMI standard? The ammo itself isn't rated, so how could a firearm be rated for it?
I honestly have no idea why people would want to shoot that stuff. If +P isn't good enough, change calibers.
To each their own. I don't shoot ammo outside SAAMI spec. I think the whole premise of +P+ is silly. The 9mm has more than one standard such as CIP, NATO, SAAMI.
Of the above the SAAMI is the most worthless for 9mm and causes problems for high quality pistols made to use high power self defense ammo.
The Glock manual cautions against the use of reloads because they might not meet SAAMI, CIP or NATO specs and states "Only use high quality commercially manufactured ammunition in the same caliber as your Glock pistol".
IOW, if it is factory made, it's OK.
The +P+ is factory made, therefore good to go and the Glocks love the stuff. Glocks run in to problems when they use the low power WWB type 9mm which is made for Kahr and S&W pistols that are not strong enough for CIP or NATO ammo.
+P isn't good enough, I like the 9mm and I use +P+. I recommend that you do the same.
There is a reason why they make the +P+, to get away from the ridiculous SAAMI spec.
Agreed. I shoot standard pressure 115 Gold Dots. Seems if someone wants a hot 9mm, they should get a .357 SIG gun.I'm perfectly fine with +P or even standard pressure stuff.

The use of +P+ ammunition in the 9mms and +P in 45s is clearly listed as okay in the 1992 Armorers Manual..How can it be rated for ammo that has no SAAMI standard? The ammo itself isn't rated, so how could a firearm be rated for it?

The pistol is capable of shooting hot 9mm, Glock thinks it's OK, you don't like it, therefore I have to get a 357 for some reason that I have yet to understand.Agreed. I shoot standard pressure 115 Gold Dots. Seems if someone wants a hot 9mm, they should get a .357 SIG gun.
A lot of people shooting Major 9 in USPSA would disagree.Agreed. I shoot standard pressure 115 Gold Dots. Seems if someone wants a hot 9mm, they should get a .357 SIG gun.
So does CIP or NATO have a standard for +P+? Or a standard higher than SAAMI +P? What are they? The 9mm has more than one standard such as CIP, NATO, SAAMI.

HK has rated the USP series as compatible with +P+. This picture is from page 21 of the manual that came with my AG dated USPf 9mm that I picked up on my birthday in 2007. I can't find my Glock Armorers Manual or I would post the page from it.How can it be rated for ammo that has no SAAMI standard? The ammo itself isn't rated, so how could a firearm be rated for it?
