357 sig bullets

I am considering getting a 357 sig barrel for my G23 and doing a little reloading. I have basic question. What bullets does the 357 sig use? 9mm bullets? 38/357 bullets? Or a bullet unique to that caliber?

I looked at roze and berry bullets and they don't list any specifically for 357 sig. Thanks for any info.

The .357 Sig uses .355 diameter bullets (the same as 9mm) the trick is that you have to find a bullet that will still provide you with enough neck to properly seat the bullet and still be able to maintain the recommended OAL range. This usually means truncated cone or hollow point bullets. Some manufacturers like Speer have made bullets with .357 Sig in mind, but they are still .355 diameter bullets. I've been using 124 grain Hornady XTP 9mm bullets for .357 Sig with good results.

There's a 357SIG club here... http://glocktalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=36

For PD, the 124 XTP works very well, as does the 125 Gold Dot. I've used Berry's 124g. plated HPs for target and low-cost practice loads and have more coming.

Read various reloading manuals' statements about appropriate bullets; not all 9mm/0.3555" bullets work in the 357SIG.

I have an Excel spreadsheet of maximum loads for 125- and 147g. bullets using ALL the apparently reliable data I can find; e-mail me at jeffreybehr(at)cox(dot)net if you'd like a copy.

I have a 32 with Lone Wolf 4.5" barrel; you might consider that if the extra length won't be a problem. For me it was not since I already use a Glock tac-lite, which protrudes about 3/4" beyond the stock barrel.

There are many bullet choices for the 357sig. Most will be truncated cone shape, 0.355". I have used:
Nosler 115grJHP
Sierra 124grJHC
124gr & 147grXTP
Speer 125grGD
MG 125grFMJ
Berry's 124gr FP & HP
Ranier 124grFP
124gr Precision coated lead
Rem 102grGS (screaming fast)
124gr castTC
135gr castLHP (TC)
135gr GDSB (0.357")

What kind of numbers did you get with the 135gr Gold Dot?

I ran them @ just under 1200fps in my P239. Pretty close to the factory GDSB ammo in several 4" 357mags. I was kind of unimpressed w/ the reults in wetpack, they seem to over expand & the petals flatten against the bullet sides. They shot fine, probably a little more room for higher vel. I like my 135grLHP better.

Thanks for the info. I've thought about pushing the 135gr GD into the upper 1200s in .38Super, just haven't decided yet. The LHP looks really nice, you're mold or commercial?

Oh, that one is all mine. If you want some to play w/, PM me, I'll post them to you. It is a RCBS 147grTC modified by Erik @ HPMS. The bullet expands well from 1050fps (9mm vel) to 1200fps (357sig).:wavey:

I use the Montana Gold 357Sig, accurate, consistent, inexpensive, as it uses I believe a brass jacket vs. copper jacket.
Their 115 JHP works very well indeed!!!
