From advice on here I went from BD to WSF for my G27 and G23.

I have a load with extreme plated bullets 165g 5.8g of WSF.

My crony shows 925=948 FPS. The recoil is less that BD with the same bullet speed and the gun feels smoother when cycling.

Shooting distance is about 25 feet and grouping is fine.

 

YOu won't. no one prints relaoding data for plated, well, AA has some. Use lead bullet data & work up or starting jacketed data & work up. Plated load between the two. I like WSF & Unique in the 40, any bullet wt, for medium to full power loads.

 

Fred is the one who got me started on the wsf powder.

It's got to be fierce! I ran some BD in my 357sig in a P239 & I think you could take flash pics with the muzzle blast for backlighting.:wow:

 

I did not get any flash like described,,,I must have been loading with a lighter load than I thought. I shot it in my G27 and G23.

So far the WSF is working just fine,,I still have a few rounds with the BD in them and any I have loaded since the BD was used up has been with the WSF. I ran a few WSF test rounds and they seem fine. When the 50-70 rounds left of BD loaded gets used up the WSF will be what I use.

 

I have used Unique, WSF, and Power Pistol for reloading 165gr. plated bullets (Berrys and Rainier). All have worked just fine. As far as load data follow Fred's advice and use the starting loads for jacketed and work up slow loading 10 or so at a time to see how they function in your gun. I have found that just a touch over mid-load data seems to work and feel best but that is just me.

 

Just about any medium burner will work well with this combination.

Tightgroup is not a medium burner and should only be used with bunny fart loads.

I don't like this powder in 40sw.When I started to reload for the 40SW this powder was involved in a lot of KB's. Maybe they have fixed it I don't know I wont use it unless nothing else is available.

As another reference point for the 165 Xtreme HP, I have the following data for my G23 using WSF Win brass and WSP primers with an OAL of 1.125"

6.3g 1028 8

I'm loading the 6.1 as that felt the best, but all were good. Using the exact same components but substituting Unique I saw the following:

6.0g 978* 19 * I nicked the chrono arm
6.2g 1013 6
6.4g 1047 5

I'm thinking I'm going to rerun both powders again just to validate the data, but these load ranges came up in a number of online forums and published forms, but do your home work and start low. YMMV.
