Consider yourself lucky that you don't live in MA. Where due to a crap law instituted by the former AG has Glocks made before 1998 are fetching prices higher than the MSRP of a brand new Glock.

Price with LE discount here is $735 plus tax. I'm talking the pistol with the factory night sights installed. Way too much IMO, so that's why I like the used firearms market so much :whistling:

In actuity of all the good quality duty ready pistols out there glocks are the least expensive!
I read a story when they first came out the were planning on selling for around 200 bucks ( with a production cost at the time of around a hundred bucks still a nice profit) but mr glock set the price higher because he felt if it was marketed with too low a price they would not be taken seriously - and he planned a price below all his competitors - turned out pretty well for him by the results of this strategy
Pretty close. Based on the book Glock: The Rise of America's Gun by Paul M. Barrett, the price of production was/is about $100 per unit. Gaston wanted to sell them at around the $200 level, but was convinced by his US marketer that they would be perceived as "cheap" guns and the law enforcement community (their primary target) would not even look at them. Marketing said price them in the $400 to $500 range and then law enforcement agencies a good discount. The rest, as they say, is history.

By the way, if you haven't read the book, it is a pretty good read. I learned a lot from it.

Like the title says.....Why? It's a simple design.....minimal machining.....molded frame. Seems to me like they are about $100.00 higher than they should be, given their content. Guess it is just for the name. They don't seem to get discounted as much as other brands.....is that a Glock policy?
Move along move along nothing to see here keep it moving! :wow:

Glock's manufacturing efficiency and ability to keep prices low has had a huge impact on the firearms industry as a whole.

It has forced competitors to also keep their price points low, a win win for consumers.

Glock is why the new HK VP9 has a street price of $600 instead of $900.

Glocks cost a lot? You can't be serious, they are the biggest STEAL in the industry and as someone else pointed out, the existence of Glock has forced other manufacturers to lower their prices.

Cheap mags, cheap and plentiful spare parts, so easy to work on a chimp could do it, obiqitous accessories (holsters, sights, aftermarket "upgrades"... Glocks are IMO the BEST handgun for defensive purposes. Other handguns may have marginally better accuracy or better ergos or whatever, but simplicity, size advantage, mag capacity, reliability, durability... The Glock cannot be beat, even to this day. Guns like the VP9, Sig 320 or whatever it is and all these new fangled striker guns are nice and all, but give me a Glock!

Just wanted to thank you again for the valuable info... I just signed up for the 3-year membership this weekend to see what it's all about.

I also just found out that a LGS is in the process of coordinating a Glock armorer's class in the next couple of months... that would be really interesting!

Without reading any of this thread, I have an opinion... Glocks don't cost " so much " (and I won't read this thread again, unless I forget.)

Just an update... submitted the GSSF application last SUN and received the welcome kit with membership card and pistol purchase coupon today! That was fast! Time to go shopping!

Still don't know if it will be a G21 or G30 variant!

They don't cost much. Check out the HK or Sig Sauer hammer fire gun. They cost a lot! And as a result both Sig and HK have nearly come to bankruptcy. Glock? No. Glock is the reason HK, Sig and S&W now make striker fire guns, and the HK is still more expensive than the Glock, while not offering as much.

I have owned HKs and I have a Sig. Compared to the Glock, my question is why do the Sig and HK cost so much. I'd rather pay for a Glock. They are worth it.

I'll second this recommendation. It's a great read, and an eye opener on how Glock was able to brilliantly market their product an usurp S&W's dominance in the LE community.
