By the way, Taurus didn’t “put” the safety there. That was Beretta’s original design.

A friend carries the Compact version every day, open carry. I have to say I find it a pretty accurate handgun, and out to 15 yards shoot it pretty well.

I personally prefer the Ruger 9E, more capacity, lighter, for me aims better, and the trigger, while heavier, is cleaner.

I only mention it that way as I was A/B comparing the two when I shot the Taurus.

 

i owned one in 1987 that did not have the decock it was either cocked and locked or manually lower the hammer for first round double action. it was my first centerfire handgun it came with smooth wood grips but i changed them to pachmyers. it was a very dependable and accurate firearm but lacked the superior machining and features of its copy the beretta 92

 

I've had one for over 30 years. I replaced the bulky wood grips with Hogue rubber grips. Made a big difference. The PT 92 is a good solid pistol. Never had problems with mine.

The PT-92 is a great budget firearm. Taurus doesn't offer all the pimped up finishes anymore. They probably don't want to get confused with Exeter.

 

I like the idea of someone producing a frame safety Beretta 92 clone, but not that that someone is Taurus.

 

Never owned one but I do have a Beretta 92FS and three other Berettas. I have shot one several times and when I did they all seemed to shoot equivalent to the 92FS. The folks I know who own them have all liked them.

Loved my 80s vintage PT92, it was more accurate than 90% of the Beretta 92s the other officers were carrying at the time.. When I went to replace it after the fire I found an Italian made Beretta for almost $100 less as all the PT92s I found were loaded down with rails and other tacticool features I didn't want. Bought he Beretta.

 

The Taurus models were made on Beretta machinery in a former Beretta factory after Beretta finished a run of guns for Brazil. I carried Beretta 92s and 96 as an LEO. They were accurate and failure free guns. But large, and I hated the safety on the slide as it is hard for me to reach. My method was to flick it off with my support hand thumb as I took my grip.
I like the Taurus safety on the frame, like the original Beretta.
I don't know if Taurus deserves the animus a lot of people have for them, but I have a PT709 Slim, and although some have had problems, I have never had a FTF or FTE with mine.

Sometimes the animus remains after the problems have dissipated. My recent PT111 has been 100% reliable and a great gun, and many others have given similar reports. To each his own, though.

It's the only Taurus I would consider owning. I hate the Beretta safety placement, they should use frame mounted safeties, like the ones on their Sport and Combat models.

All my Beretta 92s have the frame mounted safety.

 

They're going for around $300 in my area and two of my co-workers own / carry / shoot / love them. I've shot a couple of the Taurus versions; they are accurate and have a good feel. Then again, I base my Beretta experience on my time in the military with my issued M-9.

 

I have owned another Taurus. The Raging Hornet. What a blast to shoot. 8 rounds of .22 Hornet center fire in a revolver.

 

Most of the revolvers aren’t too bad.

 

The Pt92 is a good pistol. I agree the Beretta is a finer pistol, but no better a shooter.

 

I would agree, at least as far as the standard 92FS or M9 is concerned.
