i picked up a nice, leo trade in, gen 4 last yr and it shoots like a dream. With the prices on these things I’d like to have a rack of them with 100 leo mags at 12 bucks a piece.

Got a good deal on a gen3 g22, also have a gen 4 g31,
and many AM barrels to go with them including a six
inch 40s&w barrel for real power. 180gr at 1250 fps.

I carry the g22 every day and keep a 9mm conversion
barrel close, just because.

Am looking for a frame to chop to a g23 or g27 in size,
believe that is one of the best glocks for MY needs,
a do all handgun, kinda.

I really like the longer sight rad and the slide wt, I think
it makes for a more reliable gun.

This boolit going 1250fps should be good for my woods/
hunting also a load around 1050fps for fun.

A GD or HST should be good for the rest.

Whose after market barrel are you using and is it drop in? Will the throat need to be reamed to accommodate your reload?
Finally what’s the receipe for the 180 at 1250 and it’s OAL.

Been thinking of getting a 22 again vs the 45 platform as I’ll probably not hunt again, but our state has allowed the 40 finally as a hunting cartridge.

Did not mean to steal the thread but I started years ago with the 22/27 and I find a itch to return.

When we went from Gen3 to Gen4, I bought my old gun from the department. Older frying pan finish gun. Totally happy; I should have grabbed a couple more.

Never gave the G22 a second thought until I found a deal in one I couldn’t pass up. Like it so much I picked up a second one in a good deal. One for the nightstand, one from my woods carry. I have a high end 9mm conversion barrel to go with either.

Started out 25 years ago with the 22/27 platforms for competition/ carry. Competition yielded the 9mm was a better choice and I moved on.

I’m leaning heavily in reinvesting in this caliber and platform and appreciate the thread. At present the Gen 3 is familiar and easy to work with, I’ll probably try to pick up (2) with some 6” barrels in the future.

The G-22 was the first Glock I ever Shot, and a few days later, the first one ever owned.
Later own I bought a G-23, and still have it. It is still my daily carry.
I liked the 40 caliber round Back then, and still do.
Not long ago I found a Black G-22 RTF2, Very few rounds through it, and looks like new. That one I will keep.
I Have 3 Sons, and one Daughter, I plan to Give each one a Glock Pistol.
In fact I am taking My Daughter to the Range today.
She has fired a G-17, and liked it.
I am going to let her shoot a G-19, and a G-17, and let her choose. I am trying to steer her to the G-19, because she plans to get her permit and carry.
After she decides, I'll get the others to the Boys.

Take a Gen4 G22, install the OEM G31 barrel and 30561 trigger mechanism housing and OEM 6.9mm night sights, then you will have a weapon 100-percent identical to the excellent Gen4 G31. That is Glock's finest weapon and caliber.

My G31 with Underwood 125-gr JHP produces muzzle velocity of 1565 fps, muzzle energy of 680 ft-lbf, with power factor of 196. Only Glock's 10mm weapons can do better (but usually do not with most loads).

Happie:
I have a couple Dillon 650’s and before that rcbsx 4.
Your load looked aggressive for the g22,more so like a 10mm.(180 gr @ 1250 in a g22.)

By the way Longshot at 8.0 grains(max) shows 1159fps?
Sooo maybe the info you supplied might be incorrect @ 1250fps.... again 10mm readings! Am I missing something? If so please educate me on 1250 gr 180 in a .40.

That was a lot of info for one post, a bit confusing I know.

Note the different velocities in the different barrel lengths,
same load, It is a published load by Hodgdon, one of
my most used loads. As you noted, 1159 in a four inch
barrel, 1245 fps in a six inch barrel.
===================================
40 s&w,, RP brass
CCI 500

also throated long for loading to 10mm OAL with
fat cast boolits.

===============================================
The Hodgdon load is 1.125'', mine is
1.135 to 1.140''.
===============================================

I don't mean to be disrespectful but, that
post has a lot of info to compare, it will take
you a bit of time, it did me too,
as I said, everything matters,
always note the barrel length, most 10mm
loads are tested in a longer barrel, the 40
loads are in shorter barrels, usually.

A g22 with a six inch barrel can get a lot
more power just from the longer barrel
with some loads, not all loads, they need
to be full power loads.

See the Hodgdon data on both the 10mm
and 40, and note the OAL, pressure and
barrel length.

Something else, with many cast loads,
you can beat many jacketed loads of
the same weight.

Never owned a 40. Since my Army days always been a 45 shooter.
Then the fashion changed and departments and individuals started dumping these guns at stupidly low prices.
Being fond of low hanging fruit, I picked up a few; CZ75, Kahr K40 and Beretta PX4. My only Glock was a G30.
Then Summit Gunbroker in MO offered Gen3 22s for $275. I'm in on that! It was very clean with the frying pan slide and dead night sights. First outing was for a "Kenya Mall Drill" last winter. Was told to bring a pistol to shoot the first stage then drop it. Brought the 22 knowing that if I had to drop it in the mud, there would be no harm.
The rifle target was a 10 inch gong at about 55 yards. After the drill, I suggested that we try our pistols on that one. Offhand, I hit 4 of 5 shots. Miss was the first "ranging shot". Hey this thing's a shooter! So I treated it to a set of Ameriglo FBI night sights.

Always seem to get stupid on one shot..
So, that's my G22 story and I'm sticking to it.

The gain of 85 FPS with a 180 grain bullet in a G22 barrel 6” seems aggressive. Your scenario is a G20 with a 6” lone wolf conversion.... not a g22 barrel from Glock and not shooting a g22 but a g20, hence 10mm loads are more likely.

If I’m missing something it’s not apples to apples?

In other words this is shooting out of a G20 not a G22.

How does a dream shoot?
"Shoots like a dream" is a colloquial metaphor or idiom. It has an implied secondary meaning.

As far as I am concerned, the 22 is the most Bad Axe gun in the entire Glock lineup. Each to his own, but for me 16 rounds of 180 grain is about as good as it gets. The 21 will thump too. But I get tired of carrying them pretty quickly, so thats where the 43 or other Pocket 9's come in. Otherwise I would be carrying a 22 or 21 all of the time.

#22 ·
It odd. When I got back into Glocks I bought a new 26, and a leo 22. I had all the bases covered and did not know it. I proceeded to buy more, mostly used, but I have no genuine need for them other than my 17 for cheaper range shooting. But I’d rather have a match 9mm barrel for the 22.

#23 ·
I bought a gen 4 G22 new on Blue Label about 6 or 8 months ago to replace my issued P2000 when I retire at the end of 2018 and to serve as a house gun. I wasn't aware they were giving them away at the time. I like the G22 a lot and it will serve the intended purpose well.

I've liked the 40 S&W since I began carrying one on duty in the mid 90s. Funny that I just opened and read this thread. I just got home from the range where I shot my 686, and Glock 22.

#24 ·
My first Glock back about six years ago was a G19, Gen 3. After several months, the itch for a full-sized pistol set in, and I got a Glock 22. Very impressed with it... but I shot (and carried) the 19 more often, and the 22 stayed mostly in the case. Now I find that the standard pistol with our department is the G22, so it's nice to already have one...

Dave, Rusty, Taro, old friends, Today in Indianapolis Indiana our local Police Supply has a GLOCK DAY, A Glock armorer, as well as a Glock rep, and a few IMPD armorers show up, if you buy a Blue Label Glock you get a nice Glock Polo hat and swag bag full-O-stuff, Glock annuals for 2018 are free, a $10 off store coupon is handed out at the door, and a cookout is going on in the parking lot. (FT WAYNE In has the same thing going on tomorrow).
What I like is the Glock Night sights installed for $25 ea deal, I have a 2.5 gen G-26, and 2 gen G-17 LEO/Trade In from my safe who are getting the 1995/1996 sights replaced, that and a few burgers, braughts, and or dogs, keeps me happy till next year (I still have last years coupon).

So two old Glocks, armorer inspected, new GNS, tummy full, home I will go.............but wait it gets better! This "IS" about the .40 right...........!

I was going through my Glocks, 22/23/27 17/19/26 42/43 30/30s and saw locked up two gen 3, G-22's an IMPD, and an ISP, as NIB, I had bought and stashed years ago, but wait for it.............under their Glock boxes their was another one....WTF?

Yep a as NIB gen 3 Sheriffs Department G-22 I remember buying, but oh well thought it was the one stashed bedside.

Where did that one now bedside come from?

Keislers police supply I bet, but when? I don't know, guess you cannot have too many, which means my son can have another grandson now, they will all be Glocked someday by Grandpa.

And yes that one has DEAD trijicons on it, I will have them relamped as its staked in.

What a day it should be.

I was going to have GNS put on my wifes gen 3 G-17 and G-42, but she said Back Off, leave them just as they are.

A Found G-22 as new gen 3 LEO marked, must be my lucky day as the Police Supply,(Jenkins) has used LEO Trades 3 gen G-22's for $300, and I was going to get a beater one for the trunk.

In that test it was a g20 with a six inch barrel but, I also have a
six inch barrel for the g22, as I noted,
the load is a 40s&w load as you noted,
it is not over pressure, yes, if you want to call it an aggressive load
that is ok but it is a max safe pressure load that goes 1245 fps in
a six inch barrel.

It can be improved on safely by using a better boolit and seating
it longer, the g22 mags will allow more OAL.

In the g20/21 I seat the bullets out much farther, 1.260'' and
do well over 1300 fps using 40 brass, note I stated that one
barrel was throat ed for that longer load and the 40 load would
have been faster if the barrel was not throat ed.

Yes it is a bit confusing if you don't fully understand it, like I
said there is a lot of info there and most will not put it all
together.

Sorry for the confusion.
Appreciate your time in education. I understand loading long as I do in my Ruger Alaskan. The cylinder length and build allows more for less.

I’ve loaded before for the 22/27 but it’s been 20 years. The G22 frame fits my hand and appeals more than a G20 although larger hands as I have could easily accommodate.

Very Good, I understand and understood, I also load long in the 44 mag.

The statement then is you shoot a 6” barrel in a Glock G22 ; 180 grain bullet at 1250 FPS. The barrel you have is a Lone Wolfe for the G22 actually a G24.

In ordering a replacement barrel that you have, do you have a model number, I’m considering in ordering one vs
a Glock OEM barrel ? Thanks again for your time.

Ps my use of the word aggressive was a stimulus to get an answer to a question, not to seem incredulous.

''The statement then is you shoot a 6” barrel in a Glock G22 ; 180 grain bullet at 1250 FPS. The barrel you have is a Lone Wolfe for the G22 actually a G24.''

Yes I shoot a six inch LW G24 barrel in my g22/31, have not shot that load
in it yet, when I did the tests I did not have that barrel or g22/31.

Info on that barrel,

https://www.ebay.com/p/Lone-Wolf-G24-6-Inch-Barrel-Glock-Extended-40-S-w-Drop-in/1154006552

I did shoot that load in the g27 and other guns and AM barrels as note in the
other posts, I will shoot it with confidence in the G22/31 when I load some
more up, my usual load is with a cast boolit, not jacketed, at the same power.

For my needs an expensive jacketed bullet is not as good.
For hunting the cast is, for me, a better boolit, note the expansion of that Hor 180 jhp at the lower velocities in the links I posted in the other posts.

Too much expansion can be a bad thing in some cases. I know you know
that, that was for those that don't.

That LW six inch barrel is going to be a little harder to find, LW does not
make or sell it anymore.

https://www.google.com/search?q=6+i...=six+inch+barrel+for+&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5.10627j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Here is a 9'' version you can cut and crown to your desired length.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lone-Wolf-...5-24-31-Target-Barrel-40-SW/292639249993?hash=item4422a89649:g:0PkAAOSw0vJbSAUu

I also have a 5.3'' barrel for the g27/33, it really gets the power from
loads like the one I posted, this is my most used boolit so far, it falls
from the mold at 183gr,

https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000690256/double-cavity-mold-401-175-tc

https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000690690/6-cavity-mold-401-175-tc
===========================================
Things I have learned about the 40 in some glocks, the load can be
completely safe in pressure but the slide speed is too fast for reliability,
a very stiff grip can be worse than a weaker grip, I shoot with a very
stiff grip, from my old bullseye days.

There are many ways to slow the slide speed down, adding weight to
the slide and barrel helps, that is one reason I went with the g22/31,
the longer sight radius helps with the longer shots when hunting.
The six inch barrel also helps by adding weight and more FPS.
=============================================

For those that want a 9mm conversion barrel for your g22/31,

https://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=8154

I have the older LW barrels so I can't say much about the
newer ones but, I bet they are great and will get one.
