The TLR-1 is old technology, large and bulky left to right and front to back, extending 0.5-inch IN FRONT OF the muzzle of a G17.

The TLR-7 is modern and very compact. It ends 0.5-inch BEHIND the muzzle of a G17.

I'd always choose a light that includes a laser pointer. That means a TLR-2 or TLR-8.

For six years I've used the TLR-4 125 lumen light/laser with 100 percent satisfaction on the G31 that was once my camp/outdoors weapon. It is the same width as the G31 frame, and the front end is exactly even with the muzzle of the G31. It's inexpensive as well. Sure, you won't be able to fry bacon, eggs, and corn fritters at 100 meters like some owners of 800 lumen lights seem to think they will, but 125 lumens is more than adequate for serious service from a light/laser unit that is perfectly-sized for a Standard-Size Glock. :)

Once a year we have our Zombie shoot and one bay has an enclosed shoot house. Using my Glock 34 with TLR1s.

Just DARN, the strobe went off during my run while in the dark. NEVER again. It's disabled now. It's effectively a TLR1 now

Not me, but this is our COF

I use a Streamlight TLR-1 HL (HL= 800 lumens) and that works for me. I also use it on one of my G19's. I am a Streamlight Fan Boy. Regards to all at GT.

I own the TLR 1, TLR2, TLR7 and TLR 8.

For a full sized pistol that you are not going to carry, TLR 1 or 2, no question.

The TLR7 and 8 are compromise lights that work well with compact Glocks for carry. But the light is weak, yellow and anemic compared to the TLR1/2. Plus, the controls are far superior on the TLR1/2 as compared to TLR7/8. The TLR 1/2 have real paddles that are easy to reach and activate. The TLR7/8, no way. The controls are a weak point, do the research. Small, hard to reach, hard to activate. They were designed to be small and streamline for carry, that's it.

Look hard at the Olights as well. I have an Olight PL mini that is vastly superior to the TLR7 in every way. Their full sized PL2 gets great reviews as well and they just came out with a laser version of the PL2.

I am not a hugh fan of the controls on the TLR-7, so I vote to increase the lumen by 60% with the TLR-1 HL with the sexy paddle controls.

The only reason I can think of that I might ever want a TLR-7 over an 800 lumen TLR-1HL on a G17 is for a CCW that must have a light and size/weight is very crucial (in which case, why a G17?) and I can only choose between these two lights. If we were talking about a G19 I might recommend the TLR-7 depending on your situation. I would (and did) consider the TLR-7 vs TLR-1 for a G19 but chose the TLR-1HL because it's more of a home defense gun so size/weight weren't extremely important and I live in a rural area so I opted for the brighter model. It was also about $20 cheaper.

I second the Olight PL2 Valkyrie. 1200 lumen. By far the best light I've ever had. If you watch sales you can pick them up for 40% off. Which makes them 60 bucks. The new one with the red dot is slightly more. Both are awesome. My TLR-1 a has also been a work horse. It all depends on your needs. Give Olight a serious look. Good luck

For CCW, I like as small as profile as I can get. I prefer the XC-1, but since you didn’t list it, I’d say the TLR-7. For duty or home defense where I don’t care about profile, the TLR-1. Longer light allows you to drive the weapon into the target with less chance of it coming out of battery.
