Where do all the red box Sigs come from?

CDNN and other places have been selling a ton of red box Sigs for many months now. Maybe longer, but I first noticed them last summer.

So where do they all come from? Are they LE trade-ins? Or are they defective guns that were refurbished? Or are they used guns which Sig or some contractor refurbishes to red box specs?

I've seen a few Glock refurbs (Sportsman's Guide, I think) that had a warranty, but not nearly as many as Sig. I do, however, see a lot more Glock LE trade-ins than Sigs.

If they're refinished LE trade-ins, that's one thing. But if they're reworked defective guns, might it mean there are a whole more defective products than other brands? Just asking because I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to resist some of those red box P226s CDNN keeps advertising.

SIG had a leasing plan for their LE guns a few years back. I think they liked it because they would get a constant stream of used guns to sell before they were worn out and they would get a steady cash flow.

Where did you come up with are they Defective?? Like what made you ask that?

These SIG CPO (Certified Pre Owned) pistols could have been demo pieces used by sales reps, but are mostlikely used examples returned from LE departments, or NIB examples that LE departments purchased but were never issued; for the latter, when returned to SIG, such pistols, even though they're unfired, cannot just be re-sold to the public as new; they're inspected upon arrival, and only after they meet new firearm specs can they then be repackaged and sold as "refurbished".

They're a helluva good deal IMHO.

I’ve bought 2 LEO trade in Sigs in the last couple months. Neither one was red box though.

First I bought a P239 in 357 Sig from AIM. It came in the original serial numbered box with all papers, etc that you get with a new one. It looked unfired when I got it. I can understand them not red boxing it as it was like “new old stock”. $399

the Second I bought was a P229R in .40 from CDNN. The 229 was also in the original serial numbers box but with no papers. This one was “excellent to like new”. It looks to have maybe 100 or so rounds through it. $449

Just a guess, but I think if they are in excellent condition with the correct box they sell it used as is. If they refinish it, replace any parts, or no original box it becomes a CPO redbox.

Either way they are a great value. I paid less for them than I could find anywhere else. They are both like new and run great. They are affordable ways to get into a quality Sig.
