What low price 7.62X39 ammo for target shooting that has no steel? With indoor ranges not allowing steel case or steel jacket/core ammo I need to find some low priced ammo for the indoor range.

Thanks for the nice find. I got on their notification list.

You are SOL. All AK ammo have greater sheet steel penetrating potential than all typical 223/556. Most range owners just don't want to deal with the backstop damage, so "no Steel" is a blanket, no debate, no distinction, indoor range policy-- may also apply to many outdoor ranges too.

True Steel core- so called armor piercing, has not been legally importable for over 20 years (all wolf or Tula or any other import ammo must be lead core to be importable), so the likelihood of even owning it, let alone shooting it (collectable, expensive ammo) is very unlikely.

Affordable, low price, target AK ammo is only in steel case (all will be steel jacket, with copper wash, lead core), unless you load your own which is a PIA, or shoot brass variety, which costs as much as 308. Go for outdoor ranges, some should allow it, otherwise sell the AK and trade for AR which will be cheaper to shoot for fun these days.

Magnet test will be positive for any steel jacket, no matter what the core is made of in the bullet tip.

Find a better range. They just want to swipe the brass and sell it. No reason you should not be able to use Wolf or Tula steel cased with the copper/lead only bullets. They are just pricks.

Great ammo. Corrosive. Midrange on price. Good luck finding decent brass/copper ammo for a good price.
Don't fear corrosive ammo, just clean the rifle. Every 3rd world rebel/pirate/drug dealer/mafia/army has corrosive ammo and their rifles haven't rotted away.
Yugo M67 is some very nasty stuff on the terminal end. DOn't run with the hype about this or that, this stuff is devastating in target. Gel shows performance and penetration, this is the thing that destroys gel blocks.

Real men keep their guns clean. :drillsgt:
Don't confuse the Yugo rifle with the Yugo M67 ammo.
I love my Yugo underfolder.

You don't have to clean it...bullets are more devastating when they turn sideways.

Spray and pray, and try to kill everything in range, like "Every 3rd world rebel/pirate/drug dealer/mafia/army" does-- a bullet sprayer. They wouldn't care if the barrels have rotted away.

More like gas tube and piston. Barrels last longer.
The vast majority of these folks aren't the street fighters that the media pictures.
The folks that use the AK 47 and 74, are trained to some extent, have marksmanship skills, and practice. A feature that most internet "operators" don't enjoy.

I still have a few cases of surplus Yugo m67, it’s pretty accurate although my WASR chokes on it for some reason. Got plenty of other rifles in 7.62x39 that shoot it fine.
Cleaning corrosive ammo isn’t complicated but if you don’t, PPU, Herter’s And Geco are probably your cheapest options for brass case copper jacket non-corrosive. They all group better than most steel case brands for me but are around 50 cents a round.
Check SGAmmo, one of the better sites for 7.62x39.
