I'm currently in the market for a new home defense gun. I've been using Kimber for a long time now and I would like to try something different. What Glocks models and caliber are good for home defense? I've tried other guns models but they don't work for me. I find that Glocks works for me, especially the 17 but I want to know if there any better options than the 17.

My EDC G19 gen2 with Federal HST's goes on my nightstand for home defense.

Suggestion: don't worry too much about the caliber (maybe not the G44 ;)), shot placement is "king". Use what you're good with. (y) :p

My Glock 21 (and several spare mags) is the one constant that lives on the nightstand next to bed. Whatever 9mm carry variant lives in the drawer of said nightstand in the evenings along with several full size magazines.
What about the Glock 20 10mm? Is that a good self defense or is it too overpowered?

I wouldn't choose a subcompact, or .22 or .380, but any other Glock should be fine for home defense. If I had to pick one, G35.

The 20 would be fine. Most 10mm ammo isn't loaded to it's potential. I'd guess that even if you did want a full power 10mm, you might be able to find one that expands enough to not overpenetrate. That would be a good home defense gun/cartridge as long as you could handle the recoil.

If for home defense, I’d get a Glock 19 (in any caliber but .22) sized Glock or larger. Because there is no concealed carry need, might as well have a compact or full sized Glock for shootability and higher capacity.

Have owned a few different Glocks. My firearms have all been dependable.
Recently added a G45-5, 9mm, and it seems like a good move. Top end is like a G19, bottom is like a G17. Holds 17+1, and fits either G19 hplsters or G17 holsters.
My former guns were: G19, G23, G21, G22,G27. G17.
Keep a spare mag handy or two, and a clip on light and you are good to go.
Good luck.

Fan of the 19, but any of the above posts are all solid choices. Whichever way you lean, I would highly recommend a mounted light for home defense. The sudden blindness and disorientation could be a huge tactical advantage.
(My TLR7A has a pulse option that could make a bad guy suddenly feel like he was transported into a rave).

Glock 21. Gen3 SF Or Gen4 unless you have large hands. Gen 5 is good too. Low pressure subsonic ammo. Less muzzle blast than 40 or 9. Even Plus +P 230 grain is subsonic. (950 fps)
