I picked up a VP9 from PSA and it showed up yesterday at my local shop/range. I picked it up and immediately went in to the range to get some time behind the gun.
Out of the box impressions, the polymer frame is nice, the coating on the slide seems to feel a bit cheap.
I loaded up the mag that was in the pistol with 5 rounds. Keep in mind, I'm shooting this weapon dry straight out of the box. I fired the 5 rounds, had 2 FTEs but had a very nice group at 7 meters. I switched to a new Gen 4 Glock 19 and fired 5 rounds. The dry new glock fed all the rounds with no issues. The second magazine had no FTEs with the HK. Not sure if it it's a mag problem yet as I was shooting the HK dry.
Impressions, the grip and trigger on the H&K are just amazing. I group better with it in general but especially when doing rapid fire drills. With the glock shooting fast I somehow start to put rounds to the left, the groups are still pretty good but generally left. With the H&K the groups are spot on, sent of the the circle, destroying the dot I'd placed on the paper.
For me, the HK definitely has a smoother trigger with a fast smooth reset and I do like the stock 3 dots better than the sites on a stock Glock 19.
The cons: odds are the HK will never be a carry gun due to size limitations. The glock is easier to carry and given the fact that I already own a plethora of Glock holsters odds are against me carrying the VP9. I had problems manipulating the paddle mag release, the Glock definitely wins in that regard.
Pros: Trigger is kind of amazing for a striker fired pistol. The sights are pretty sweet.
