Black officer did most of the shooting. That's a good thing
I guarantee he has a different opinion , doing what he HAD to do takes a toll.

I thought of this years ago when I got frustrated chasing my horse around to put his halter on. Original pampas type bolo with two balls on a rope. I can't imagine what kind of range would be necessary for a fleeing suspect in an urban environment or a parking lot. Horse in an eaten down field with barb wire fence limits the horses movement/escape...add a vaquero on horseback to keep up in open space, yay bolo.
Horses don't have knives and guns...they can kick the ever-living poo outta you. Some random butthead on a slick icy sidewalk loses his footing and cracks his head on concrete and DRT...uh oh...better call Ben Crump.
Trying to solve my horse problem (actually a me problem) I read an old trick to show you're the boss is to palm a fresh egg and slap it right between the eyes. It sounds like an explosion inside his head, then the egg innards flow down the face and smells like blood to the now cowed and respectful equine who thinks you're Voldemort.
I gave my horses away. I had no business having horses.
This bolo idea is a bad idea fairy that looks okay in a firehouse but has nothing to do with actual Tueller "drill" considerations. Putting more crap on a duty belt that doesn't always work is silly IMO.
Always use the wrong tool for the job...and if that doesn't work...GET TWO.

Who's the HERO in this situation.
I don't see a hero.
Five cops shoot a man down with a knife. Wasn't a throwing knife, it was a handheld knife 30 feet away.
Medals should be awarded.
Great job, fully justified

I couldn't tell what type of clothing he was wearing.
But they should have deployed the taser, just to prove they used or tried to use a lesser force.
It was a situation where you had time to implement an action other then deadly force as he was slowly walking down the walkway.
Bean bag shotgun, taser.
The current generation of Tasers have about a 50% failure rate in field application. (Like MLM said) would you want to defend yourself, or a family member, against a lethal weapon with a weapon that has about a 50% chance of working, just because the general public might (mistakenly) think you had time to do something else if it didn’t work?

I try not to Monday morning QB cops when legit threats are present.

what I can say is I probably would’ve put 2 in the guys dome up front….
Think about it for a minute - they always show these demonstrated on a person standing calmly. You can't usually use force on a person standing calmly. if you use it on a person charging you, you aren't going to get his feet together.

There’s a problem with that, for what it’s worth…. People aren’t robots…on average when a patrol cop or a civilian gets past “oh ****!” To “bang, bang, bang” there usually on instinctive survival/ auto pilot at that point.
And, like I said, the answer to that is training. Under stress, people typically do what they have been trained to do (trained, not told) without even realizing it. Police keep shooting, to the point they could spend the rest of their lives in prison, because stopping was never part of their training. Yes, people go on auto-pilot in a shooting - people even go on auto-pilot ion competition. What you have to do is train the auto-pilot.

Why didn't they have one of these ?

You are kidding, right?

“Well sir, if you don’t drop want to drop the knife after we’ve asked you some 25+ times, would you mind standing still with your feet together facing away from us?”

That’s a fair point.

Part of the issue is that it is on video. Then people can analyze it at .1 speed, or "frame by frame". IRL the officer had it at full speed and only once. Reaction time is the issue. It takes time to react to stimulus. That includes stimulus to STOP doing something, It's generally between 1 to 3 seconds.
