For HD gun, I prefer a weapon light vs red dot. For ccw, I luv my rmr2 on a g19.

Wear it around the house with no mag. Practice draw and acquire for a few weeks and you'll fall in love with the RMR2. Have a G19 G5 with RMR2. Looking for a blue label G17 Gen5 or G45 MOS. Short supply right now. Draw and aquire practice very important with transition to RMR2 or any red dot.
Just dont do dry practce "walking around the house". Its a good way to shoot something you dont want shot. My dry practice has a designated spot, never any live ammo around.

I dont think you "need" it. But if you have the desire money and practice with it you may like it.

I've put in the time. I shoot regularly and I acquire the dot when presenting but it hasn't made me faster or a better shot. Looking back after many months of shooting I didn't need to spend the money. YMMV
I am faster with irons in close, under 15y. Where the dot comes into play is low light or distances beyond 15y. Then the dot for me is slightly faster with same accuracy. We were doing 40y 10" steel plates the other day. A 1.5 sec draw to hit was very doable with the dot. With irons, about 1.7sec. No not a huge diff but a diff.
