TLR-2 on a shotgun?

After seeing hikok45's youtube video showing that you basically need to aim with a shotgun at home defense ranges, I'm a lot more concerned about being able to swing my 590 around and score the first hit should someone ever get in the house.

I think my 590 is drilled and tapped for a scope base, and if it is, would a Streamlight TLR-2 be a good choice to mount on a piece of rail on top of the receiver? I would think the barrel would block a section of illumination from the light, but the laser would at least help ensure the first trigger pull is effective.

What do you think?

Mount it like that, and you won't be able to see the bead sight. Don't ever rely on any electronic sight as the one and only available sight on a fighting gun. I've got two shotguns with TLR-2s, but they're there mainly for the light, and they only back up iron sights.

Sounds like the $250 would be better spent on ammo and range time.

I'd be more worried about obstructing your sight picture than anything else. I'm with Vic, mount it on the foregrip.
