Well, I fell for it, or the marketing, or the "gotta have it" or whatever, and I'm gonna guinea pig it for GT. I went and had a look at it, and I will say, I'm impressed. Walked out having purchased it for $395.99. Please enjoy the thread, all commentary positive, neutral, and negative welcome. I don't care if you like or dislike the new RXM, I'd still like to hear. I hope this will become the new thread for this thing moving forward, here on GT.

I got a host of pics here for you guys, and please request any additional pics. I wanted to really see the FCU, and all that.
Image

Image

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Grip feels better than a Gen 3 19, but still large, but feels good. Fit and finish, especially machining of the slide is immaculate, and very consistent. Smooth nitride finish, similar to my favorite S&W Armornite or whatever the hell they call it.
GRIP: Grip texture is perfect. I mean that, Magpul nailed it. Undercut is minimal, but feels great. Backstrap is consistent radius, and minimal beavertail. Trigger guard is rounded, no texture on front of it, doesn't matter to me. ETA: Forgot to add, nicely molded in integrated flared magwell. Visually unobtrusive, but functionally there if you gotta have one. Nice to have.
Image

Image

CONTROLS: Are nice and extended just enough. Style language is a bit new to me, but I'm pretty happy with it.
Image

TRIGGER: Like a Gen 3 Glock, but it's just a hair nicer. Reset is stronger, but a little longer, by sev than my G19.3. I wonder if it's a Ruger "minus" connector, but time will tell. Kinda flat faced, kinda not. I'm not confirmation biasing myself to death, but it's one of the nicest trigger shoes on a plastic gun yet, IMO.
Image

SIGHTS: Blacked out serrated rear, and Tritium white outline front. Suppressor/optics height, but still fit the gun nicely even without an optic.
ETA: Tritium glow isn't bad, but could be brighter. I'm used to Truglos which are nearly bright enough to read by in a dark room.
Image

Image

Image

OPTICS CUT: Haven't taken the plate off, no need yet, but it's designed to fit 3 different patterns: RMR, DPP, RMSc with no plates required. I'll get a pic soon and edit the thread, here.
FCU: Intriguing. I was very curious as to how they did this, and it's looking pretty cool.

I hope to actually get out and shoot it soon, perhaps tomorrow, if time permits. Regardless of how it performs, I decided to get on board early with this one. Even if it does have issues, which I hope Ruger realizes a solid launch is critical, I know Ruger will have our back and make it right whatever it takes. If it shoots anything like my Gen 3 Glock 19, but improved, I think it's gonna be winner.

For now, yes, grey is the option. However, rumors of 17 and 26 frames and photos of different colors are already circulating. If Ruger does this right, offers slides and grip module options for decent prices SIG, then this could be a hit. Ruger offered Max 9 complete slides for a very competitive price, so I'm optimistic.

As far as the Dagger, yeah, it does kinda. I wanted to mess around with a Dagger, but never did pull the trigger on one, due to its pretty serious initial teething issues, after a years long delay after delay wait. This was $100 more for the OR version, and I do trust Ruger. Not their budget stuff like the Security 9, but I'm hoping this one brings Ruger back.

This is as close as Ruger has gotten to reviving the SR series, being a Glock clone internally, which the SR series largely was. I still wish they'd done that, but I'm a Ruger guy, so I'm on board.

Congrats. If it runs reliably, it’s an attractive, affordable option for gun buyers and that’s a good thing. When I started buying handguns, I wish I had the options available to gun buyers today. The quality and reliability differences between price ranges back then were significant. Today, however, we have plenty of options

At this point, I’m pot-committed to GLOCKs for my striker-fired handgun needs and probably won’t venture into other brands. There are a few guns that have come along that, if I was still collecting guns, I would try such as the Springfield Echelon, and Kimber R7 Mako. I’d probably talk myself into a number of the GLOCK clones too. The RMX has features people want, hits a nice price point, and is based on a proven design. Enjoy!

Absolutely. As I said, I'm gonna go into it as objectively as I can. I am leery about using the PMAGs as actual carry, JHP loaded mags. Most swear by them, others say range only. Magpul and Ruger are fully committed, as it comes with the thing, and their names are literally all over everything. :D

This is a deal killer for me and it's on both sides of the frame. Surprised the top of the slide doesn't say point this way with an arrow.

View attachment 1349912
Fair enough :ROFLMAO: I know that crap bugs some people, but to me, it's as silly as my disdain for the forward slide serrations on Gen 5 Glocks. Not giving you flak, just agreeing on the point that some people just don't like certain things on their firearms. It affects that "style language" I mentioned.

The arrow would be hilarious :ROFLMAO:

Congrats....please post a range report.
I absolutely will. Already got the first range trip planned. 3 mags of JHP carry, 200 rounds of ball ammo, another 3 mags of JHP. I hope I can go soon.

I hope someone puts a lot of rounds through one to see how the barrel holds up. The only i info I found states “alloy steel,” but that doesn’t tell me much.

The complaints I’ve read about the PMAGs with GLOCKs over the years have mostly involved failing to lock open the slide. Some folks swear by them, but I’ve always used GLOCK OEM because they’re affordable and I know what I can expect.
Well, it may be one of my main shooters, if all goes well. Amazing in hand, and I love the way my 19 and 17 shoot. I haven't shot my new to me 19X, either, so I'm gonna see what all the rave hype is about.

I will be exclusively running the PMAGs with it, as it's what they included. Like I said, Ruger and Magpul are staking their rep on this combination, so it should run as delivered. I'm certain OEM Glock mags would only be better, so I'm not worried about testing those.

347. Today in email sale
Shipping, transfer, etc. I'm not worried about it. If it hits $299-349 in retail stores one day, which it might, I'd be bummed. If it drops to that, that overpriced Security 9 still going for $299 in most cases, storefronts, should DROP.

Thank you for this review. This is why I consider GT a top gun website because members share their experiences.

Thanks @PilatusTurbo ! For the pics & the initial review. And we needed a consolidated thread. I was getting tired of jumping back and forth between the other two.

Someone else mentioned holding one (or more than one) and finding the magazine rattled a little loosely in the magazine well.

Does yours do this? And if so, is that still the case with the mag fully loaded?

I thought at first it was a Dagger. Is gray the only choice?
Black is available for purchase at the websites of both Ruger and Magpul.

... They completely missed the mark on the reason clones are popular.
Maybe. We shall see.

Mag rattle: Empty mag, yes, to a limited degree if I shake the crap out of it. Loaded, can't get it to really make any rattling noises when loaded. That could all change once it's broken in. I'm going to clean it tonight, unless manual says leave that grease crap in it, and get it ready per my usual clean gun spec. Again, I expect it to perform just fine given all circumstances. Not that I fully believe it will, but I mean that it should. Time will tell. Again, if it's crap at the range, it'll get a pass on the first 300 ish rounds. After that, I'll be the first to come back and tell you all that it's an unreliable POS and I'm contacting Ruger.

I contacted Ruger after my first outing with my LCP 2 .22LR. I told them precisely what happened, 150 rounds of pretty bulk garbage ammo. Several light strikes and a couple FTEs. I fully acknowledged that 150 is nothing, but I wanted to know if there was simply some sort of update or recommendation. They said I should run more ammo like CCI, but they did offer a label pre paid to replace the firing pin. They immediately then followed that up with "If you're comfortable doing the work, we can just send you the new firing pin, spring, and roll pin" which is exactly what I was hoping for. They did, and the gun ran much better the next outing, but that was also CCI Minimags. Regardless, I was very happy with their handling of that "issue" which it hadn't even passed a fair break-in period, and they were still offering to look at it on their dime and time. Can't argue.

I'll bet! This thing is going to eat PSA's lunch. Despite the $499 MSRP it's already at $399 street price. Once the excitement wears off a bit it'll probably go down a bit more. People will pay a little more for a gun from a "real" mainstream gun company like Ruger.

About the only substantive negative I foresee is the crummy finish. There's a photo on another forum where a guy put 225 rounds through his RXM in one outing. There already was visible holster wear on the slide edge and there were patches of finish missing from the slide stop lever and takedown pin.

As I said earlier, it does not bug me. I want all people to chime in with whatever their thoughts are. I do find it intriguing that so many are perturbed by it, but as I said earlier, I'm also perturbed by forward slide serrations on Gen 5 Glocks. Can't stand them. It's just a preference/aesthetics thing to each individual. The "shark fin" LCI on the SR series doesn't bother me one bit, either, so there's that.

@PilatusTurbo thanks for the party/post/limb.

I kind of want one because of all the ignorant hatred for it. Way to go out and get one. I sure hope they bring it out in 40S&W.

I'll be looking forward to your review. It would be cool if you had some light 115s and +P 147s to see if it runs both out of the box.

Thing is, this will short track to LE holsters quickly for many reasons. SIG losing market share, the recalls on Shadow Systems, and the polish off of Glock and Smith, seems like a great time to be Ruger and give LE what they have been asking for from them for the last 15+ years. Genius.

Agreed. I pretty much run all 115 gr everything. My JHPs are 115 gr Magtech and PMC, and they tend to run a little warm. Plenty of 115 gr FMJ ammo to test, too.

If I can get a box or two of 147 +P, I'll be on the look out for it. I know the old mantra of break it in with 124 NATO or hot ammo, but I don't abide by that, either. Any reputable gun should be able to run really any reputable factory ammo after a cleaning and a break in period of 250 rounds. It's better if it gets through the 250 break in and continues running without a hitch. Pretty much all my guns did it, this should damn well be able to, also.

#46 ·
Well dang, I should have watched some of the gunnytubers first. Yeah, the RXM is probably better than a Glock or a SIG with some of the best of both. But yeah, looks like Genius, especially for less than $400.

I can't tell if you're being facetious, not that I care if you are. I do agree, that it brings more to the table than meets the eye. Ruger did ensure a big social media launch by getting them out to influencers, but no one seems to be crapping on it. Maybe there was an included cheque....... :ROFLMAO: that's why I decided I'm gonna be an early adopter. I wanted to get in early, even if it goes south. If it goes south, the gun is done.

Gonna try to go tomorrow, but we have family friends over and we did the Hot Ones challenge with all 10 sauces. Feel like I got a belly full of whiskey and it's been years since I drank or felt like that. o_O:ROFLMAO:

#53 ·
Guess we should be happy to have so many to chose from today. With prices to meet all budgets.
We will see who is still around in couple yrs.
If I were to be looking/buying, prob still go w/LE, Glock trade in.

Friend loves the smallest Dagger, so much he has like 5-6 of em. lol

#65 ·
Not outside the realm of possibility. In fact, it could be likely given that virtually all gun companies (corporations in general for most products) just realize they can release half baked crap and have the buying public test it for them. Recalls, "voluntary upgrades", etc. I do disagree on lack of support. Ruger is probably the literal best in the industry for customer service and support.

... Not that I fully believe it will, but I mean that it should. Time will tell. ...
That's right. We'll only know by people buying them and using them.

If I decide to bite, I probably won't wait. My user name should be Willing Beta Tester.

S&W Bodyguard .380 early adopter. (Had to send it back in).
Boberg XR9-S early adopter. (Had to send it back in).
Glock G26 gen 5 early adopter. (Had to send it back in).
P365 early adopter. (Had to send it back in).
Was also a Kimber K6s early adopter. (And haven't needed to send it in. But it's a low round count gun, so...)

You'd think I'd learn my lesson but I'd rather have what I want even if I lose a couple of weeks rather than wait a year like some do.

My only hesitations on the RXM are that I have absolutely no need for another 9mm handgun and I was already considering the HK CC9 that I don't need. I definitely don't need 2 more 9mm handguns!

...
This was after one outing, 225 rounds fired:
Image
That's not a major concern for me personally.

I've seen worse on a gen 5 Glock with fewer rounds fired, especially finish wear on the barrel.

And, while I have much more than 225 rounds through it, if you use a gun enough, it will look like you use it:

I forgot! You're the venerable P365L guy! :D

This is where people who say the FCU is kind of a silly novelty are missing the point. Yeah, few people actually do lego their P365s or other FCU guns around, but I personally have, and it's kinda interesting to be able to do it. I have a P365 everything now, and I can take the P365XL slide and put it on my spare XMacro grip frame and have two. It's kinda dumb to most, but it's kinda part of the hobby for me. Tinkering. I never used to touch handguns as far as tinkering; AR rifles, shotguns, all day. Glocktalk and its members got me comfortable with screwing with handguns, and now I love getting a used gun and fully taking it apart and deep cleaning it, or in the rare event replacing a part or two, making it new again... To me.

The word is that Magpul and Ruger are going to be creating more grip frame options, as I said. Glock 26, 17, probably X mullet options. I mean, if the gun does well and takes off, we're going to see a true FCU Family Of Weapons where buying stuff isn't stupid expensive. Taurus tried, but swapping the GX4 FCU is not exactly easy unless you have some basic skills. The P320 and P365 aren't bad, and this one seems pretty straight forward to yank it out. I don't know that I'll do all the other builds, but who knows.
