Looking for a good magazine extension to carry a spare magazine.

The pistol is a Glock 19 and I carry a spare Glock 17 mag and would like to increase the magazine capacity.

Your experience?

Pictures?

Durability?

1+15+17 sounds like plenty of ammo -

I feel fine when I carry 1+6

I never liked the idea of +1 or +2 mag extensions. Risk of popping off seems higher than a normal base plate. Plus you are changing the length the spring must travel.

I am sure many will say they have zero problems with them - just my $.02.

I took one off my G18 33 round mag and tried it on my G19 & G26 but went back to stock base plates.

I use the Glock OEM "+" extension floor plate 7151,

which must be used with insert 7165,

https://store.teamglock.com/glock-magazine-insert-for-9mm-40-357-45gap.html

It adds two rounds.

(This replaces the earlier and obsolete Glock extension floor plate marked "+2".)

I use them on some of my outdoor/camp G31 .357SIG magazines...just because I can. For any real-world non-movieland self defense situation except law enforcement, a six-round magazine without spares will be more than adequate in the USA. I never use extensions or carry a spare magazine with my EDC 1+9 G33. I'd even be happy with a mere five-round .357MAG SP101 revolver. :)

You could try the Pmag 21 round mag. I havent picked one up yet but haven't had any issues with their 17 round mag for my G19 after a few hundred founds. Also no problems with the 12 round mag for my G26. They have both fed RN, FP, and HP's flawlessly. The 12 round mag is close to becoming my primary mag for the 26. No extensions and obviously the springs they use are designed for the number of rounds they hold.

Dawson Precision, Arrendondo, Taran Tactical, Taylor Freelance. I have used Taylors in competition for over 20 years, run them full, and never had an issue. They come in +10 and +6 for 9mm, and do not come apart because of the plate. Taran's are very good also, but they weren't around 20 years ago. I have seen the others come apart in competition. there is also at least a half dozen newbie companies offering them also, but have never seen them used in a competition yet.

What is the gun's purpose? Are you talking about a gun you use to possibly defend your life? Or a competition gun? If this is a defense gun, do not run an extended base plate, period.

The best extension is none. No extension will compare to sticking with the standard base plate for reliability and long life. I have seen far to many mag extensions fail at ranges to ever trust one in a defensive situation
+1000. I have many +5 Taran Tactical base plates that I run in competition, And while failures with them is super rare, it CAN happen. USUALLY, it's the follower getting stuck on the bottom of the factory plastic, which essentially takes out 100% of the spring tension, and you get complete magazine failure. It took some very light sanding to the inside of my mags before my competition +5s would run reliably.

Taran Tactical
They are indeed the best + base plates on the market. But Taran Tactical told me THEMSELVES that you should never run their + base plates on your self defense guns. Competition only.

I don't ever use mag extension baseplates, my guns for competition give me practice with my defense and carry skills, so since I don't trust the extended parts for carry i don't use them in competition either.

If people use and enjoy them that is great. Glad to know tarin parts seem better than most .

Have run the Glock +2 mag extensions for 20 years. Dropped them fully loaded on concrete, kicked them into brick walls, stomped on them and have never had one to fail. They not only give extra rounds but make seating the mag easier and more positive without needing to relax the grip of your shooting hand or possibility of pinching the palm of your hand.

I like my Arredondo +5 for G20. Even had it textured to match the grip. Rock solid and goes in my back pocket regularly.
