Is it actually binding on the blade tang intersection? I've had a few knives from various makers do that...even Benchmades!
Had to disingage with both hands to keep from ripping my thumb nails!
Actually grew them just a bit longer for leverage. Helps with older stuff like Case trappers with the nail notch!

 

Well I gave my thumbs a day off then did it yesterday if done right I can do it one handed just gotta dig my thumb in and use my whole arm strength to do it. Recon 1 is good much better luck with the Voyager series I have 5 now three large and two XL.

 

I have really strong thick nails, I could probably use nail hardener and sharpen THEM for SD.

Have a Benchmade Skermish that did that. Locked up like "CHHHOOOCCCCKKK!!" Really loud if you inertia flipped it, which I love BTW. But it's a frame lock, a chunk of the frame actually springs over to hold the blade, and it would go too far over!

Man, you talk about hard, so I polished the face where the lock contacts the blade tang, very slowly and carefully.

Some knives I have bought have handicaps. I love them and keep them regardless.

S30v blades. I have her black coated counterpart too and it works like a Swiss watch, no matter how hard ya flip it!

That is one BADDASS pocket knife.

I would say it's a 100% lockup for sure out of box for the TiLite 6" which is what you want in a large defensive type blade no unintentional closing just gotta bury my thumb and thumb nail in just the right spot and push blade closed carefully with my pointer finger at the same time. Btw I have a Benchmade precinct flipper 320 I believe the black class all black model that is the same way 100% lock up out of box especially when flipped with force or inertia opened guess that's the way it is,works for me it actually touches the opposite side liner so it isn't closing on ya for sure smaller blade so able to close one handed. Btw not sure if you have a Broken skull by CS but you better check it out Awsome blade,slim,light with a 4" clip point blade I have the coyote brown great blade. Also thanks for the recommended Voyager series awesome, two 4" tantos,4" clip point,5.5"tanto and 5.5"clip point,great blades no lock issues with them.I know you were talking about the first gen series but the new ones are way easier to get my hands on and find.

 

Hey wait CJ,,,don't that sucker have like a metal thumb plate with grooves that runs along the frame tab...should have grooves that run perpindicular(so) to the handle, or am I missing the ball here?

 

yeah a small thumb tab approx 1" with minor "jimping" or texture on it, not of much help. You are right on.

 

Great blade just a not so great lock tab, you can't have it all I guess, lol.

 

Are the contact faces metallic, I can't remember...

I just haven't picked the config I want in steel that $$$ yet. I tend to get a bigger blade first and get it out of my system.

I like the blade overall a nice carry piece but it's no XL Voyager or Spyderco Tatanka, I got mine at a decent price some are very high some places, I hear ya. Not a wrestling fan or crazy about the "Broken Skull" writing on the blade but I like the knife. Glad to chat with you buddy,Ive fallen hard back into the knives again myself. It's a addiction, lol.

 

Yeah..wrestlers are bad actors, but damn fine STUNT MEN...that's the way I see it.

I don't mind supporting Austin's knife if cold steel made it. At least he picked a damn good brand.

I'm not much for blade decorations either, I gotta tell ya...

Love those voyagers dude. Been carrying one regular since buck had that drop off in steel quality. Glad to see that's over too.

IMHO and it don't mean much, but for a work a day knife, voyagers can't be beat.

 

Solved this! Had the same problem, fresh new owner but with lots of knives in my life, and here I am on my second day of ownership with thumbs hurting like hell. Had to use second knife blade to unlock after energetic wave. Searched everywhere, found this thread, thanks guys for giving me confidence and inspiration. So: The part of the blade that linelock locks against was pretty rough, unpolished, scratchy to fingernail rubbing. Cotton bud, like regular for ears, polishing paste, battery drill and less then 5 minutes of working on that surface, and the roughness is still there but it’s much smoother to the nail. And voila! Opens smoothly even after powerful snap. Cheers!
