So the Steyr did not make it two months...........

Saturday is my usual range day. I needed to cycle the ammo in my 26.5 which is my EDC and I brought along 100 rounds of Perfecta 9mm, 50 for the 26 and 50 for the Steyr. The 26 ran through the 12 rounds of carry ammo that has been loaded for 6 months and ate up the Perfecta no problem. I prefer to use Federal or Blazer brass but we live in interesting times.

Now on to the Steyr, which I will preface today's experience with shooting it every week I have experienced light primer strikes about 5 or 6 times. Twice it did not cycle into battery after firing it. I chalked it up to not cleaning/lubing it well enough, what can I say I am used to Glocks. So today I made it to round 43 and pulled the trigger, click and nothing, sigh another light strike. Tried to cycle the slide to get the round out and could not pull it back. Live round stuck in the chamber.

I took it back to the shop I purchased it from and told them it has a lifetime warranty, I don't know if they will send a new pistol but I am done with Steyr. They are working up a trade for a Beretta 92A1. I was able to trade into a 92A1 a couple of weeks ago with a couple of guns my father left me after passing away from COVID complications. So why not have two, right?

I did research before buying the pistol and had not come across any glaring reliability issues but at this point I just don't trust it. I know I could send it back for warranty but I have concerns with their customer service department. At the beginning of January I ordered two extra magazines, which were 10 rounders for the L9A1, no 17 rounders for the L9A2. first week no shipping, then they are down for 2 weeks for inventory. I emailed and it went unanswered, I called and got "our inventory is done and we should have it shipped by Saturday. Tuesdday they answered my email and then ship notification the next day. Almost 5 weeks for two magazines. I can't imagine how long the warranty process would take. I hate to come across as entitled and whiney but I just can't bring myself to rely on this pistol or the company.

So I am looking for some extra magazines for the L9-A2, looks like the M9-A1 magazines are compatible. Can anyone confirm this?
They should, L and M models have the same grip length, at least in the A1s. I suspect they did not change that.

EVERYTHING is slow now. I've dealt with them before and have had nothing but good experiences.

I had multiple glitches with both Stetyr pistols I owned but was assured that due to the close tolerances they're built it takes some range time to smooth things out. Turns out that's been true for both Steyrs, and after about 300+ rounds at the range both began running through full boxes of ammo. At the moment I'm relying on my S9-A1 for bedside duty, over both 100% reliable S&W and Glock pistols, not that either of them is any slouch.

I recommend calling Jeff at Steyr USA; if he's still there I'm sure he'll get you anything you need to bring the pistol up to your satisfaction. He's sent me several items at no cost to me over the past decade.

I appreciate the advice and encouragement unit1069 but this is already a done deal. The store gave me credit to pay off a 43 that I had on layaway and will let me know how much I have toward the 92A1.

One of the issues I did not mention in my post earlier today was the Steyr not chambering a round from slide lock. When I first loaded it up today I used the slingshot method to chamber a round from slide lock. It would not go into battery(4 different rounds), when I used the slide lock lever to release the slide and chamber a round it eventually did feed those rounds. I am not a newbie and know not to ride the slide into battery when chambering a round. Using the same ammo, no issues with my 26.5.

Back in November/December I was looking at something outside the Glocks I normally purchased. Not custom shop just a little more special, the Steyr looked like it might be it, loved the look and the way it felt in my hand. I was willing to overlook things that I feel make Glock superior-price and availability of standard capacity magazines, sight upgrade, holster availability and price.

I am sure I am coming across as bashing the company as a whole and I don't want to discount other's positive experience with Steyr pistols I am just venting about the poor experience and saying they are not for me. At best I can describe the L9A2 as finicky and that is something I won't tolerate from a pistol.
