My son just recently turned 18. I have been looking for about six months and it seems the Spyderco website is always out of stock on nearly everything. Anybody know when or if they will update and or resupply? I could buy him another brand but I have been using my manix 2 for on about a long time and I think it's one of the best knives I have ever owned.

Nobody buys direct from the manufacturer.

Go here.

or just about anywhere but the manufacturer's website.

Do NOT go to Ebay unless you want a fake.

Yeah I know I could go to Amazon or a dozen other places and possibly get scammed. I would prefer to buy direct as it's gonna be cheaper and at least in theory you should have more selection available. I have had my manix since it was first released. Whenever that was.

No inside scoop on Spyderco?

I gave you 100% viable, well established entities that don't charge MSRP.

The inside scoop is they sell to their authorized distributors first (those folks I gave you links to). Then they sell whatever isn't bought until it's out of stock. As we have been having massive supply chain issues they aren't making enough to keep anything in stock.

I'll ditto the recommendation for CutleryShoppe.com. I've purchased MANY knives (mostly Spyderco) from them. Got to know the owner. Great prices. Great service.

Just went to see what CutleryShoppe.com had for Manix 2s. Yikes... most of them out of stock. But, these are in stock:

And others... I'm too lazy to find them all. Here's the search results of Manix 2 on that site:

Ok so they are a distributor first model now? I haven't bought a knife in years. Didn't have a reason to in about eight ten years now.

Thanks for the information.

To the best of my knowledge that's been the business model since the internet went mainstream ;)

Ok pulled the trigger and ordered from dlt trading. 170.17 no shipping charge. I looked it up so I could be sure. Manix 2 came out in 2009. It's been awhile since I ordered a knife. Thanks again for the information from everyone. Now I have to decide if my son gets it right away or special occasion.

A solid company with fast shipping. Congratz.

Spyderco has a discount program called OpFocus which gives a really good discount on their msrp if you're military/police/fire/emt.... Several years ago my yojimbo 2 was like $40 cheaper than blade hq although I had to wait a few months for it to get back in stock. I've heard numerous stories of fakes on Amazon. I would stick with spyderco, bladehq, knifecenter, or knives plus. Knives plus does custom stuff too like acid etching blades, swapping handle scales, anodized hardware, and seem to be priced fair.
