Boyt, I have several In different sizes. I store my guns in them in my safe. I also put them in my range bag when I go to the range. Not sure why but I’ve always called them “gun rugs”.

My experience with storing a gun in a case was rust. But it was a long gun. I was living near Houston, so hot and humid was the norm. I hope your experience with that practice goes well for you tho.

i have never had an issue with rust. I have had my gun rugs for a long time, I think over the years they have absorbed enough gun oil and it keeps the rust away.

 

I squeeze a lot into a little space by buying rifle gun sock and cutting it into handgun lengths

 

Anyone have a favorite gun case?
I've picked up a few pistols recently, and I think I'd like to keep them in zippered soft gun cases. If I keep them in the factory boxes, my safe can't fit them. I have one that I use, but I need to pick up a few more. Thanks in advance!

I use the cheapest ones typically. They can absorb moisture so after I return from the range, take the pistol out and leave it propped open to air out and cool down before putting it in the safe. Put one of those Hillman 1 1/4" Paper Key Tags on the zipper and write which pistol is in there. Makes it easier to find what you want in the safe.

 

I have 5 or 6 soft pistols cases of different types and sizes and I use them to avoid the guns to touch each other inside the range bag and perhaps damage their finish or get scratched so I put the pistols inside the soft cases individually and they travel safe .
Inside my safe I have a pistol rack so no need to use the gun cases , only when I go to the range .

I second the nomination of Bore Stores. They're just thick enough to prevent dings and scratches in the safe so they don't add much bulk. More importantly, they won't hold moisture that can lead to rust.

 

Add handgun racks to hold your handguns in your gun safe and a humidifier just in case .

Boyt and Allen are well made and look good. I have one over 20 years now and still looks great. having said that I have more of the cheaper ones just to keep pistols snug. I'm ordering some DBTAC?

 

Midway USA has them in various grades. The Boyt is nicer. Allen makes some that are fine for storage in a safe.

 

The Boyd cases are nice. I have a bunch of nylon cheapies too and they work well.

 

I have several of different manufacture and they all seem to work well. I do like the Boyd cases but they are a bit expensive. I have also got some pistols wrapped in terry cotton cloth hand towels with a rubber band wrapped around it to hold the towel on; that works just fine as well. I put those Dessicant packs from new shoes and prescription bottles in with the firearms to scavenge any moisture.

 

I would never store a gun in a soft case long term, but do have a bunch of assorted "pistol rugs" to keep guns from getting scratched in my range bag. Boyt, as mentioned a bunch of times already, are nice, but any cheap one will do fine.

 

I prefer gun socks, they’re cheap and they work. I use them inside my airline pistol hard case, no rust issues and it keeps my pistols from getting banged up in transit

I also store my old milsurp rifles in gun socks without any rust issues in the southeast where humidity is a way of life

That looks like what I've been using for years, I only use them for transporting to the range, never storage. Great case!

 

I have Red Head gun rugs for all my handguns. They are inexpensive, but adequately protect my guns from damage. Rust isn't a problem in the desert with single digit humidity for much of the year.
