I'm not a leading authority on AK's, but this is how I did it:

When I got my AK I stripped it down and wiped out whatever crud there was from test firing (barely any).

I then put a very light coat of grease on the stem of the bolt, and a very light coat on the rails the bolt carrier group rides on.

 

Light coat of oil and you will be good to go.

Rem-oil and/or CLP will work great.

napa brand 30 weight works wonders. a quart will last your lifetime. the gun will last twice as long as you.

Me too. I'll use a good copper solvent for the chamber and bore every once in a while, but most of my AK cleaning is with CLP. Hose it out with CLP, wipe of the excess, ready to roll.

 

Don't forget. Ride it hard and put it away wet.

 

every gun should be appropriate lubed before being used. Why does it matter if it's an AK, a Glock, a snubby, or a Howitzer?

 

I'd definitely clean and lube your rifle. It takes a really long time, but oil does evaporate over time. I think it's just good sense to protect your investment. On another note, go shoot that baby!

but too little will cause premature ignition, also known as firing out of battery.

 

The only time you shouldn't lube is in subfreezing temps when you don't have access to a proper lube. If you're out of options it will work bone dry.

 

Clean the grease out and lightly oil it.

 

Use grease instead of oil, AK have loose tolerances and take to grease better then oil. I use Weapon shield grease on everything and its super smooth and runs like a champ. Main spots to get are the rails, bolt, and the hammer where the bolt rides over it.

In warm climates, yes. Grease will harden up a lot faster as temperatures drop though. Might not be an issue with the AK, but it is with most weapons systems.

 

I use Pennsoil 5w15w sythentic in a syringe. A drop at the axis points coat the bolt using a cotton swab and a drop on the rails should do it. After a shot or two it will coat everyting inside anyway.

 

I use oil on mine because I'm too lazy to look for the grease. It's an AK...works fine.

drop the parts in a bag of lays chips and rub the chip oil on it, then i rub bacon grease on it.
smells great when 'cooking' off rounds

 

I use a dry lube, WS2. It doesn't attract and hold contaminants.

This is what I did...the AK74 worked 100%

drop the parts in a bag of lays chips and rub the chip oil on it, then i rub bacon grease on it.
smells great when 'cooking' off rounds

I use grease on my AK47. I use a lite coat of Lucas grease from an auto parts store! It works great!
