I found that out the hard way! The old sight, loosen the set screw, slide the sight off. Take new sight, fit, stone, refit, file, refit, stone and repeat over and over. Then get a 12,000 pound elephant to stomp it into place!
Found out I wasn't alone. So much for truglo drop in replacement.
Front sight was a piece of cake. Rear was a real project!
Does work perfectly though. Zeroed to perfection.
Yep, found out the hard way myself. The other two I let a gunsmith put in!

My wife has the LC9s, I have the Shield. She likes hers, I like mine. The LC9s shoots well and has a good trigger but so does the Shield. I just prefer the feel of the Shield.

I've owned both, had reliability issues with the Ruger - when using hollowpoints, the slide lock would engage mid-mag. Round 4 with one mag, round 6 with the other. It was really weird. No issues with round nose. Wasn't every time, but probably once out of every 5 mags full - enough that I could never trust it.

Shield has been rock solid. I'm probably going to sell it to snag a Hellcat, but that's not based on anything but capacity, I trust the Shield completely.

I had a Shield 1.0, which I gave to my son-in-law. I now have a Shield 2.0, and a Ruger EC9s. Nothing wrong with the Ruger, but I much prefer the Shield. (Prefer the Shield over the Glock 43, as well.) The S&W and Ruger have both been 100 percent reliable, but the Shield has a much higher quality feel to it. There is also much more aftermarket support for the Shield. I read somewhere that S&W has sold over a million Shields. The only reason IMO to buy the Ruger over the Shield is if price is a big factor. And, even then, sometimes you can find Shield 1.0s for a heck of a price.

I am curious as to why only these two were mentioned. So many small 9MMS out now.

Of the two, I prefer the Shield. For me it is just very shootable. Hard to define, but it shoots like a bigger gun. Both of mine have been 100% reliable.

Have handled and shot an LC9. Was the earlier version with the looooong trigger pull. Did not hate it.

These are two that I own and like. Figured it would be interesting to see which the collective preferred and why?

Ok.

It has been a while since I handled an LC9 and it was not at the same time as a Shield. You own both, how much smaller would you say the LC9 is?

I could not vote because I like them both. Carry an EC9s (not LC9s, but size and shape is almost identical to my LC9) because of the slightly smaller size. As said in previous posts, how the gun feels and shoots varies by person. Only thing I've done to make the EC9 slightly more shootable for me was put a grip sleeve on it that helped with recoil softening and a fatter, more secure grip for my fat hands.

Put me in the Shield camp. I've got nothing against Ruger; in fact, I own several of them and like 'em. But my EDC is a Shield 9mm and it's a great shooter, totally reliable and fits my particular hand better.

Overall they are fairly similar in size. They're about the same height depending on magazine used. Length is almost identical. However, the LC9s is thinner .90 vs. .99. And the grip is thinner. Some like that, some don't. Depends on the hand. IIRC, the LC9s is about 3oz lighter. I like them both, between the two the LC9s is more comfortable to carry (to me).

The LC9 has nicely rounded contours that help in concealment and comfort but aside from that I think the Shield has it beat every other way.
field striping the LC9 is usually a pain and don't loose that pin!
Shield is softer in recoil as well.

There is no question that the LC9s/EC9s is easier to carry. It is lighter and thinner. My worldview is this: since I carry basically 18 hours a day, every day for 20+ years, and shoot zero bad people, I strongly tip the scales in favor of ease of carry - as long as the gun maintains adequate boom boom utility. The question is where does one get that balance. For me, it is mostly found in guns the size of the LC9s/EC9s, G42/43, PM9, Hellcat, P365, etc. That's the honey hole. Any bigger and I just have to ask myself why I am carrying it. I do carry bigger on occasion for fun, but always default back to the EC9s genre.

We gave the Ruger to my dad but I kept my Shield!!!

I have an LC9, it works every time, every time so far. I have shot S&W Shields and they are easier to shoot than the LC9, better trigger on the Shield. The LC is more compact than the Shield. I stayed with the LC because it's smaller and suits my needs better than the Shield. I can throw the LC in my pocket(altho not ideal) not gonna work with the Shield. If I gotta use a holster, I'll carry a Lightweight Commander.

I no longer own one but the LC9s Pro is a great pistol. It has one of the best triggers of any single stack 9 out there. With that said the shield seems a little more robust. Between the 2 at current prices I’d choose the shield because you can pick one up for $250 and it comes with 2 mags. Plus I have no data to back it up but it just feels like it would last longer.

As far as single-stack 9mm’s which do you prefer (between these two pistols) and why?

(To include Shield 1.0 and 2.0 as well as LC9 and EC9s and Pro models)
I’ve owned both shields 1.0 and 2.0. Both are excellent reliable.

my shooting buddy has an LC9 and it is much less well finished, feels lower quality but shoots well and is very reliable. If money was my main concern the Ruger is a legitimate option.
