600 bucks cheaper, I’ve had the 8500 M4 feed ramp model for 5yrs now, my first AR. 1000+ rounds, new and reloaded ammo, last year BCG failed to return to battery, shipped to Ruger, they replaced BCG , buffer spring and another spring, I don’t recall which one, had it back to me in ten days. So yeah I would buy a Ruger, and if I wanted to spend more money I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Colt

I'm not an AR Guru by any means, but have some general experience with ARs. I was issued an M16A1 as a patrol rifle, attended the Colt armorers school, had my own Colt years ago, and recently purchased a Ruger. Also had a S&W M&P 15 on a Dept. T&E deal some years ago. Within my humble experience, they're all good rifles.

The Ruger I recently acquired is a 16" free float model. Thus far, with only a couple range trips, no complaints. Awaiting a new optic to get some more experience with it. Part of my buying decision was confidence in the excellent customer service Ruger has provided me over many years of using Ruger products.

I went to the M&P because of cost. I bought it when the first M&P15 sport came out not sport 2. For my needs its been flawless. I have a buddy who wont have anything but a Colt in AR15s. I have had zero malfunctions and probably havent shot more than 1000 rounds.

If it ain't free float, it ain't accurate. Colt's 1:7 ain't stabilizin' nothin'.

If it ain't mid-length the recoil will punish your shoulder which won't matter because the bolt will break by the end of the first magazine.

Gotta have picatinny 360 from the grip past the muzzle so you can hang all your crap.
I tend to attach my waffle maker on the right, even though it's a bit awkward. But that way I can have a QD syrup holder on the left, near my support hand.

Bad idea. The waffle maker will cast a shadow from your WML, assuming you're running only one light.

I keep my waffle maker on the bottom. That way I can melt butter from the super hot gases caused by the inferior DI system and have the butter drip directly onto the waffle.

I removed my buis and use one light attached to the rear of the receiver, on a 45 degree offset mount. That way, I can attach the tape switch to the pistol grip.
I get a lot of shadow, but at least the light completely illuminates my rail mounted accessory controls, such as my garage door opener buttons.

I disconnected my sling and let it drag on the ground to make scary ghost sounds and put a mount for the WML to shine in my face to instill more fear and let the BG see the face of his impending death.

I'm not sure about the Colt being that it has a chrome lined barrel. Ain't ruling Colt out...just have to see.
So you guys think the M&P sport 2 is a reasonable quality M4 ?
I had a Colt about 25 years ago and it was a good rifle.
For average, run of the mill civilian use the M&P Sport (either 1 or 2) will work fine. It is a great gun for range use, hunting, and home defense. I've had my Sport 1 since they first hit the market, but I am not a high volume AR shooter and I haven't had any issues with reliability. Have taken quite a few hogs with mine, as well as enjoyed many range trips. If something fails on that rifle, I will just fix it and move on. Haven't had that issue yet.

Just understand that the Sport 2 is a price point rifle. While it looks similar to the Colt, not all things are equal. The Sport comes with unlined hand guards... most folks change those out anyway, so may as well go with cheap ones. The trigger is different in the Sport (at least the Sport 1) and is not a true mil-spec trigger. It works for me and I haven't changed it, but many will swap it out with a lighter trigger. The hammer in the Sport was MIM, where I believe the Colt is forged. So just know that the Sport is "mil-spec" dimensions, but not everything is the same material. Barrel steel is another difference between the Colt and the Sport. The Sport is made out of 4140. These things make no real difference for my use, but others may feel differently.

Also, if you are going to buy a built rifle, I would suggest buying it as close as to the configuration that you want. For example, if you want a free float barrel, buy an AR with that already instead of buying the Sport and making changes.

A friend bought an AR 5.56, and upon my recommendation he installed a Larue MBT. He seemed to have exactly what he wanted in an AR, but shortly thereafter sold it all.
Some people do just buy and sell guns after 5 minutes of ownership, but I still don't understand why he just up and sold it like that. He was really proud of it, then just dumped it off? I don't know, and I won't ask.

I have an M&P Sport that I have never had any trouble with. The next AR I purchase will also be an S&W. I may even get an S&W AR 15-22. Oh, yeah, the Victory is also on my "like to get" list.

Damn! You corrected your honest typo before I could quote it and make fun of it.

I have a m&p sport 2 and a new manufacture cr6920 the colt is definitely a better rifle but it's up to you to determine if it's worth the extra cost. Even if you go with the m&p though you should be fine mine has several thousand rounds through it with no issues.

Yeah, "Larue" got spell-checked into "large." I almost didn't catch it.

I like Colt, but think their "government-only" style of sales, has really screwed American gun buyers for decades. I like the stuff, but think it is just too over-priced and over-hyped and they're too cool and too important to worry about some "hayseed" out in the midwest. I hope CZ changes things for the better.
I tried to call Colt once with a pistol question, and got run-around and around, and back to the same recorded message over and over again. They work for the govt, and that precludes any customer support concerns, I guess. Ruger is the exact opposite.
