Us gun folk often talk about guns we wished we hadn't sold...however, I had a chance to buy an M96 about 15 years ago for a really great price, and I didn't do it because I really knew next to nothing about them. Later on I got a chance to shoot the rifle I had been offered and I almost broke my leg kicking myself in the butt...very nice rifle...I know I've read some really negative reviews, however, I sure didn't notice any problems at all..Most are now running $1500 and up...oh well....

The welding required was far too costly.
I was told by Alex himself about a year ago that he is trying to bring it back.
But currently they are working on PCC XCRs.

I don't get all of the hate. He had one rant in a forum nobody goes to like 10 years ago.
The company culture is much different now.

It was more than just one rant in a forum.

It was the insulting exclamations he used to put on his website to discourage prospective or interested buyers of his imported VEPRs from inquiring about status of availability.

Well I remember the first ad in Shotgun News back in 1997 that the M96 was about to come out. The look in the ad made me say to myself--a semi auto Stoner 63. I bought 2, both were the original 20 inch 1st gas system rifles. As Robinson made improvements I converted 1 into the topfeed(Bren gun) and the other into a Recon carbine. Still have both but don't shoot them due to lack of parts. Best shooting 5.56mm rifle I've ever owned. Here's few pictures. Yes that's a real Stoner 63 bipod. The topfeed is a poormans M249. I do have a spare barrel for it, It takes about 20 seconds to change barrels. There were only 100 topfeed kits made that sold back then for $750.00

Dude is a dick. I dont give dicks any of my money.
Sold the two i had when he refused to sell any of the proprietary small parts.
I sold a few rather nice custom 1911s due to a drunken gunsmith being a dick.
Life is too short to deal with BS from guys that dont treat people, customers with respect.

True.

There’s a guy in LA that sells good dive gears at reasonable prices but I refuse to buy his product just because he thinks that his crap don’t stink. Quite a few shops don’t carry his products for the same reason.

I’ve never heard good things about Robinson. And I recall that almost as soon as the M96 started shipping, the company seemed to lose interest in supporting the platform.

It would have been nice to have another Black Rifle type in the mix. The M96 was based on the Stoner 63. The major drawback was the lack of industry support for part sources.

I own an XCR because I was intrigued by the gas system. Horrible, horrible experience both buying and trying to modify the gun. They don't answer emails or phone calls. Everything you have heard about the owner is true. Should have bought a SIG.
